I am looking to dip the toe into PvP, started off with random BGs until I get used to it, then into rated. Need to know the pros/cons of each DPS spec for war.
Fury is easier to play all around. Arms has a higher ceiling.
All i know is I almost never lose to Fury comps and almost always lose to Arms comps.
Granted i only do random bgs. But i feel much more tanky in fury while still doing similar damage as arms. Using slaughterhouse and battle trance
Arms is the meta easily this season. Funny as it sounds, despite the tier being underpowered in PvE, it’s very good for PvP. A sudden death execute performs damage, a light snare, and a dot that is hard to maintain in PvP all in one GCD.
Sharpen is still huge for setting up kills. Mortal Strike is consistent - slaughterhouse is not.
Die by the sword is a better defensive than enraged regen. Bladestorm (you can have two of them) grants unstoppable and greatly slows enemies hit (via pvp talent). This, I would argue is a huge selling point of arms vs fury.
This.
Even though fury is a bit tankier, I feel like arms is a more effective killer despite both having a similar damage.
it depends what you want to do as well. Arms yes has that single target killing power, as much dmg as Bladestorm does its not the end all be all, though you can’t be CC’d from it, people will avoid it as much as possible, plus arms has some build up to it.
Played right, Fury can dominate in group fights, causing immense pressure. You may not get as many killing blows, but jumping into a group of people and instantly and constantly hitting everything around you, throws people into a panic in my experience. Plus you are less predictable. You are also tankier but more vulnerable to CC (roots and stuns mostly)
Either way both specs are viable and fun to play, they have their place. Arms is meta, true. But fury has seen much success too. Especially now that Slaughterhouse can be stacked not with just rampage but with onslaught and Odyn’s fury. Talented correctly you can spread slaughterhouse to multiple targets at once, giving your team more openings for a kill target.
Arms is the easy choice, unfortunately.
Arms has more damage overall, more pressure with sharpened blade and bladestorm giving CC immunity, more healing (thanks Blizz) with ignore pain making it generally tankier, and better defenses with die by the word.
Fury has good spread pressure using bleeds but this season they gutted Reckless Abandon which had the effect no one is talking about; it cutting their sustain to 1/3 of last season with no compensation. Making Enraged Regen little better than a wall outside of Recklessness where more RB’s lets you press BB more. Making you the go-to kill target because you have no way to stop it. It’s a class who’s fantasy is max aggression and throwing caution to the wind but now they just sort of die even with all their buttons pressed.
And they wont fix it because everyone is focusing on damage numbers and fixing Fury’s janky rotation. Which, fair enough.
If you’re reading this, just do yourself a favor and go Arms. It feels so bad maining Fury all of Dragonflight only to try and fly in with the hyper-aggressive playstyle that won games in S1 and S2 only to just die. Unless you like the hit-and-run playstyle some higher tier players have adopted. Want to play a warrior like a survival hunter? More power to you. I’ll just prey they fix it next expansion. Since the tier set they reworked warrior to fit will probably be voted in by the PvE crowd for S4.
I tried fury in some random BGs and the gameplay loop is fun but I die near instantly. The nerfs are sad, I remember being able to sustain myself much better in BFA. Maybe I’ll just make a rogue seeing as they seem tankier, more damage and still DW.
I’ve found Fury to be SUPER fun. Arms feels bland, but yes the meta. Tankier and MS is a stronger dampening effect right now, but slaughterhouse just got buffed. We’ll see how it goes in coming weeks. Bloodrage is a absolute must for roots and snares. It gets you out for essentially the cost of one bloodthirst and you’ll never get slowed again. Great against druids and mages. And dont forget to rally right after an intercept!
