ret cant even kill healers in pvp in classic… all you have to do is heal his damage and hell go OOM. then run away at walk speed
Do NOT Listen to this, using “stopattack” will indeed stop your auto attack…as in botch your white dmg badly too. The macro is #showtooltip Heroic Strike /startattack /cast Heroic Strike /stopcasting . It’s STOPCASTING not stopattack. This will cancel the heroic strike but allow autoattack to continue. You can do e same with cleave. Just swap out hs for cleave
Considering that post was made a year ago, I’m sure that they figured it out.
I think it comes from the fact that at 300 weapon skill and below you have a guaranteed miss chance against raid bosses of at least 1% - irrespective of how much hit you have because the gap between your hit and their def is more than 10.
Over 300 WS wipes that out so that you can cap with zero miss chance. So while the theoretical “hit cap” is 9% as that would get you to zero miss chance on yellow attacks - if that were possible - but it’s really 8% on yellow attacks as you will always have a 1% miss chance. However it is 9% at 301 WS (as you can eliminate the fixed 1% penalty) and 6% at 305 WS for yellow attacks etc.
For simplicity 9% at WS 300 still greatly benefits white attacks and is better than crit at that point so it gets put out there as a simple rule of thumb.
That’s unless I’ve been getting my understanding of the numbers wrong all these years (which is quite possible).
Another thing to note is that these numbers are only valid if you’re behind or adjacent to the boss. Hit cap on Yellow is quite a bit higher if tanking front on - and I think taunts count as spell hit not melee hit too (not 100% on that).
The mechanic is that when the weapon skill gap is more than 10, the first percent of +hit is ignored. So there’s an 8% miss chance, but 9% hit is needed to cap.
Getting that +5 weapon skill reduces the chance to miss to 6%, and also eliminates the ignoring of the first percent of +hit. So with +5 weapon skill, there’s a 6% miss chance and 6% of hit is needed to eliminate that.
Hit cap has nothing to do with whether or not you’re attacking from the front. Exactly nothing. Attacking from the front allows mobs to parry and block your attacks. +Hit just reduces chance to miss. Those are disjoint outcomes.
Taunt does indeed use the spell hit table, as do several other spells in the tank arsenal.
I realize this thread is a little old, but as a noob warrior I have a question. I’m running 2 handed fury (i know meme spec) on a human warrior. My 2 handd sword skill is 305 and I have 10% hit. I currently have the Untamed Blade. I’m looking to get BRE for both pve and pvp. Also is the band of accuria a waste for me since I’m at 10% hit already?
Thanks
2h hit cap is lower, especially at 305 skill. Only need 6%, assuming no talents that also improve hit.
Hi. Just wanted to run something by you. Weapon Skill that exceeds a targets defense will reduce the amount of hit needed. Weapon Skill on a mob that is higher level than you (i.e. {skull} level Boss mobs) will not reduce the amount of hit needed; it does, however, reduce the damage penalty of Glancing Blows by 10% per point above your maximum weapon skill for your level (base Weapon Skil), which is 300. It also has a secondary effect on the hit table by pushing blocks and parrries off the table when attacking from behind, because the mobs Defense table is a static 315. Again, Weapon Skill has zero effect on hit chance if your targets Defense skill is higher than your Weapon Skill. I hope this helps to clear up some of the misinformation on this topic, Lok’tar Ogar, Brother.
