Fury Changes in PTR

Kinda disappointing? Not bad but won’t really change our problems. I’m really bothered that they didn’t say a single thing about the tier set issue…

Same, but I’m also not surprised.

The Fury changes are pretty interesting. Big buffs to the Annihilator build, but also the overall changes seem huge in keys, particularly for Fort weeks. I really miss 1 minute Bladestorm on Fury, but the Ravager changes are spicy.

Of all of them, I’m actually most interested in the Onslaught changes.

I still don’t think they have thought through how they have it setup. Right now you either go Raging blow right side or Annihilator left side.

How would these changes effect Annihilator Builds:

  • Onslaught damage increased by 40% and now generates 30 Rage (was 25).
—Not even sure what talent they would drop. Can’t drop annihilator, Dancing blades synergizes with annihilator too well, and Unbridled Ferocity has such a high uptime on recklessness that to lose the buff for an 18s CD that hits as hard as a rampage from what I can tell.
  • Tenderize now causes Enrage to last 2 sec longer (was 1 sec).
—Definitely never taken. Not only is it locked behind the above which would mean losing a Core talent / ability for Annihilator to function, but Anni builds are normally near capped on the Slaughtering Strikes stacks and enrage uptime plus stacks mean far less in dmg.
  • Storm of Steel now reduces Ravager damage by 30% (was 40%) and Rage granted increased to 20 (was 15).
—Worse issue than the above 2 since now only have 1 choice, give up (Swift Strikes, Reckless Abandon, and Unbridled Fury) just to get an 45 sec aoe that normally does like 6% of your overall (but now 30% less and doesn’t give the Str% buff that honestly accounts for most of Fury dmg anyway).
  • Frenzied Flurry increases auto-attack damage with one-handed weapons by 30% (was 5%)
—Likely a strong buff if running Anni with 1H. I am not sure if it causes 1H to beat out 2H now, but it didn’t before.
  • Unbridled Ferocity - Onslaught now triggers Recklessness in addition to Rampage.
—20% chance on a 16s CD is far worse than 20% on something you were spamming every 3.5s anyway. You would need to lose Dancing Blades as its the only option to then grab Onslaught to try and benefit from this change… but it would be a massive dps loss.
  • Storm of Swords now increases Whirlwind damage by 80% (was 70%).
—Definite buff to anni AoE without any changes to existing taken talents. Not sure what overall % dps increase it is in aoe, but I don’t imagine it is much.
  • Anger Management now also decreases the cooldown of Ravager.
—The only way this would be worth it is if you could grab hurricane which you literally can’t do. You need 4 points to get annihilator, 3 to get Anger management, and 3 to get to just Ravager. 1 point shy of hurricane.

I haven’t looked at how a CB blow build would be effected, but I assume it will likely also be unaffected. The Odyn’s Fury - Avatar interaction as well as Ravager Hurricane are just too strong to justify trying to get onslaught to function even on a single target only focused build (it is definitely worse than those for AoE)

Overall I rate these changes 0.5/10. They took a look at what wasn’t taken and tried to buff them without asking why other things are taken and the paths to get there (the way Deft Experience, Swift Strikes, and Critical Thinking gate things is crucial to the builds)

To simplify what I stated above:

  1. Really only two builds Annihilator left side and Crushing (Raging) blow right side.
  2. Rampage is core to both builds as the sole rage spender that accounts for high % of overall dmg in both single target and AoE. This means both Reckless Abandon and Unbridled Fury are both essentially locked in as it buffs both the core rage generator (Anni or RB) and the core Rage spender.
  3. The result is that Recklessness now procs often enough that berserker’s torment is never taken as the Avatar buff on the Warr tree and instead you take the Odyn’s fury enhancement (which is on a shorter CD anyway 45s)
  4. This then requires you to take Odyn’s Fury and likely buff it.
  5. If Anni, you obviously took the Annihilator talent. If CB you took Rav + hurricane since like 12 seconds of near 30% increase to core stat is nuts (currently an 8.4% DPS increase in my sim).

sooo we synergize so well, Blizz just wrote themselves into a corner.

I wouldn’t use onslaught with annihilator, or even try to fit it in. I feel like it goes really well with the crushing blow build, and already use it for that, so I’m glad to see that it’s getting even stronger.

What I’m sad to see is that they haven’t changed the whirlwind talents… it’s so frustrating that they took baseline functionality away from whirlwind in order to make it into a talent… one that is essentially mandatory if you want to do cleave damage at all.

The effect of Improved Whirlwind needs to be baseline like it was before.

Your problems are only the beginning for as hard it is for all you warrior fan boys to realize the simple factor which I like to call “spec-zoned”.

With that said what’s happening to warrior is same thing plaguing pallies with one exception which is the healer aspect which actually screwes warrior indefinitely. Means prot is in high demand and good standing in the M+ scene makes the other two spec obsolete.

Why? Simply put class stacking is not a thing in a 5 man M+ group ppl pugging will always look for 4 things meta tank, B-rez, lust, meta pumper, not to say warriors DPS do not pump on the contrary they do very much on a competitive lvl. BUT and here is the caveat: you don’t bring anything that the prot warrior doesn’t already contribute and the other plethora of classes don’t substitute.

The changes are god awful useless, for the simple fact they’re all intended to buff talents that aren’t used, to be aligned with the talents that are already performing at a below average level.

Fury needs an overall aura buff, or atleast a tier set thats actually worth getting.
