Function Keys Target Allies?

Logging in today I got a login blurb saying that function keys target party/raid members. F1 targets me, F2 targets the next member, etc.

Is this new? I mean, I have had some buttons of an action bar key bound to F1 through F4 for a long time, and recently I’ve noticed that I can’t DPS only to realize it is because I am now targeting an ally for some reason? I don’t click to target, but it’s on a (new to me) class that has a lot of reticle placement AoEs, so that could be another explanation if the function key ally targeting is not new.

That was their original functionality all along. But it does sound like maybe something reset your keybinds.

Thanks. I have the same setup on my hunter and haven’t noticed the issue there, just with my destro lock, and only very occasionally. I have all but one of the lock’s retical AoEs on @cursor macros, but I think that one where I still have to click is causing me to target allies when I start spam clicking and button pressing to lay down multiples of it when capped on shards. I will try putting that one on an @cursor macro and see if that fixes it. Been meaning to do that anyway, just being lazy.

It’s possible you’re just accidentally clicking on an ally that’s on your screen when you lose the target. If you’re doing @cursor targeting of AoEs it seems plausible you’re putting the cursor near an ally and happen to left click or something for whatever reason.

If you have an MMO mouse and the side buttons are re-bound to function keys it’s possible you hit the wrong button and hit one that’s still bound to default WoW targeting and not to something else.

You should be able to go into your keybinding settings and remove any function keys that are set to targeting to make sure it’s not that.

Another possibility if you’re using a keybinding addon like clique is that you have a key bound in clique that’s different to a default keybind and if you press the key while the clique requirements aren’t met it will do what the default key does instead if you set certain conditions on the keybind in the addon.
