Fun Idea: Colonize an Island

Trying to get something a bit more fun up here to discuss and maybe play around with.

The concept is fairly simple, as part of the island expeditions your faction discovers an island perfect for settlement, the island is big enough for a small town, fort, or some other base. However the island will only be colonized by one race each (So a Darkspear island, or a Gilnean island) and there are enough islands out there for every race to get one.

What is the Island named?
Who lives there?
What do they do / produce? [Military base, fishing village, Oil Refinery, Mining town]
What conflict do they run into?

Island name: Gorgradda
Who lives there: Ogres from the first incursions of the Horde into Azeroth and a Dragonmaw settlement of orcs that settled later, sometime after the second war.
What do they produce: The Ogres funnily enough, are the ones who commune with the elements and start their path to true shamanism, wheras the orcs there delve deep into ancient arcane secrets from Highborne ruins that were abandoned for centries.
The conflict: The Orcs start enslaving the elements and the dead to their will, and the Ogres seek to bring balance back to the island.

This reminds me of some of those Nation RP threads that I used to see from time to time. With the premise of some Alternate future of Azeroth, where new nation rise up, and it sort of turns into an RP game of wide-scale political intrigue and War Storytelling.

Anyway

What is the Island named?
Sharasnaar (Speculative Darnassian. Village of the Tides. Tidal town, or Town by the water).

Who lives there?
Kaldorei who sought isolation from War and all the conflicts associated with the Alliance and Horde.

What do they do / produce?
Primarily a fishing village, the coastline of the island is lined with docks and shipyards. The locals using druidic techniques to product longships of living wood, which they use for Fishing. At the center of the densely forested Island is a Moonwell, and a naturally fortified acropolis and market. The locals go here to trade, and it is also where they may flee to in the event of an attack.

What conflict do they run into?

Those damn adventures who are little more than pirates, sailing to islands, killing everything that moves and stealing Azerite to fuel their war machines.

Al’ thaar Dormir (Oceans Glow)

Kaldorei mostly, Fae dragons, dryads, treants, keepers of the Grove.

It’s a medium sized island with enough space for the Sentinel fort, Sor’athel. There is a fishing town on the island but not much else. It’s mostly forest and the elves are fine with that. The island produces lots of lumber and food and with the help of the druids the island stays bountiful. Many people escaped the war here and those that were able to leave Stormwind relocated here as well.

Not many. It’s a fairly remote island that not many know about. The Sisterhood has kept the island hidden and unreachable by asking for Elune’s aid. The goddess keeps the tides around the island in constant flux and the only way through the torrential sea is with an ancient prayer know only to the highest ranking members in the Sisterhood. Despite its remoteness the island does keep in contact with leadership with updates on the conditions of the island and its people. Every now and then there is a small murloc incursion but they are usually pelted with arrows before they can do any actual damage.

Basically, just make it Garrison 2.0. Only it’s an full village>town>city instead of just a military base.

And the residents are…whoever the PC decided to put in it.

Please don’t hate me Elesana.

New Teldrassil.

A single Night Elf woman.

Nothing. It’s just a small island with a tiny tree on it.

A’kielor

It was originally founded by Draenei engineers as a refuge for anyone who likes to tinker; as a place to share ideas and inventions. This, of course, drew Engineers from across Azeroth so soon all races were represented.

The largest building on the island is a workshop of Draenei design. It is filled with workbenches and boasts an impressive array of tools. Most days it buzzes with the sounds of innovation. They mostly produce a variety of gizmos and doodads, but sometimes collaboration leads to huge advances in technology.

There are also outlying residential and academic buildings. In the academic buildings, Engineers present their designs and seek collaborators for projects. Those Engineers who are more focused on the future of the craft offer training sessions for the less skilled. The academic buildings were built by the original settlers of the island and thus are typical Draenei structures.

The residential buildings, on the other hand, have become a mishmash of architectural designs. As space filled up in the original residences, and non-Draenei moved to the island, these buildings began to reflect the architecture of their builders. There is no enforced segregation, but language barriers and old hostilities have lead to the creation of conclaves within the residences.

Ultimately, the drive for innovation supersedes the divisions allowing A’kielor to thrive.

The most common conflicts relate to design decisions. Typical debates include: “Should it explode after 5 seconds or 3?”, “Are mechanical chickens overused in combat?”, and “Goggles, great headslot item or greatest headslot item?”. Unsurprisingly, Gnomish and Goblin Engineers butt heads most often.

Since A’kielor was founded on a spirit of shared insight Engineers who refuse to collaborate are politely asked to leave, though they are not above forcibly ejecting residents via cannon.

This is fun.

What is the Island named?

Blutendorf, new life for the dead.

Who lives there?

The settlement is a home for Forsaken seeking a life outside of the longstanding conflict between the Horde and Alliance. To ease the pain of their existence, though few ready to face death. All are welcome, be they former Humans, Night Elves, Abominations, or Plague Drakes. Though excessive magical use is discouraged to prevent abuse or enslavement of others.

It is primarily a cool, rain-swept, and misty land. With a small and relatively quiet volcano.

What do they do / produce?

The island primarily functions to support a large obsidium mine, which they use for crafting and trade. They tend to further supplement this with various brewers. Which helps ease relations with merchants given their appearance.

What conflict do they run into?

The greatest threat continues to be Naga raids. Given their lack of a need to breath, the serpents have often sought to enslave those they can. As well as minor Kvaldir forces still roaming the seas of the north. Which they have done their best to deal with with more walls, towers, and archers watching through the dreary nights.

Or you could just play Animal Crossing.

I love all the answers / popularity this thread has produced. Thanks so much for all the fun responses! Enjoy seeing people be creative.

As for one of the ideas I’ve come up with:

What is the Island named?

Maba’jin Isle

Who lives there?

The settlement is a Darkspear Troll Island, and serves as both a small fishing village, and a small temple to Bwonsamdi. The island is a tropical jungle surrounded by coral reefs.

What do they do / produce

The village primarily does substance fishing, as well as some hunting on the island. The island is also a large source of Worshipers for the Loa of the Dead, with many ceremonies to the Patron Loa of the Darkspear on the island. The island is led by a Shadow Hunter who often will lead the village out in the name of Bwonsamdi and Graal.

What conflict do they run into?

The Island is often beset by Naga and Murlocs that not only attack villagers, but also compete for the fish in the area, which requires the Trolls to go out and fight these threats whenever they grow too bold.

Name: Sundermont Mesas. It looks akin to mesas coming from the ocean floor, several of them connected via draw bridges. Like ThousandK but in the ocean. It’s covered in a thick rain forest.

Inhabitants: Tauren of the Rainforest Tribe. They revere water and fire equally, due to constant storms sweeping over them they revere rain and water, but are highly reliant on fire for wramth as a result.

Produce: Fish, mostly. It’s an island after all. But I also see them farming on their island. A basic mine as well, where they can get simple ores and help maintain their guns. The thick forest provide ample of lumber, but the tauren still tend to it carefully. The tauren praise to Tortolla and Garl, two ocean Wild Gods, for good sea harvest, as well as Ohn’ahra to bless their winds.

Conflict: Wouldn’t be warcraft without it. A particuarly nasty tribe of murlocs like encroaching on their turf, and on the higher mesas are harpies. Several naga raids have been committed against them too. The woods can be full of dangerous wildlife, like great spiders and massive bears, though the tauren have largely befriended the bear population.

Does World’s End still do those? I’ll admit to lurking in many of those in the past, I loved seeing the creativity of those.

Oh, you got my creative juices flowing this morning.

Starfall. It got its name after a passing merchant ship spotted a falling star crashing into the island during the night. It’s an island full of jungles with a single mountain rising up from the center.

The Vulpera discovered this jungle island some years ago and created a port town.

This port town acts like a way station for merchant ships and even pirates if they behave themselves. The Vulpera have shops that sell and buy from the merchants who stop here. They provide supplies such as fresh fruit and fish and a place to repair ships if needed. The Vulpera do produce some handcrafted goods and have deals with certain merchant ship captains to sell overseas.

The Vulpera warn traveler about the island’s dangers, but do not prevent anyone from exploring. They will supply adventurers with gear and even a guide if one is available.

The occasional drunken sailor mostly. Pirate attacks are nonexistent after the last attempt ended in the entire ship and its crew being blasted into pieces by the inhabitants. The mysteries of the island still cause the odd disappearance now and then.

Strange rock-based elementals have been seen in the deepest parts of the jungle near the mountain. Wildlife that gets too near starts acting in odd manners. What crashed there all those years ago? What lurks in the mountain?

Some say the Vulpera know all of the island’s mysteries and kill anyone who gets too close to the truth.

Blood Elves, Nightborne, High Elves, Void Elves

Gossip. Petty rivalries. Reality TV.

So. Much. Conflict.

To begin with, this was supposed to a PRIVATE retreat for select Blood Elves. But then Misty accidentally/on purpose included her boyfriend Micah the Nightborne in the chat, so he wound up showing up with a bunch of his Nightbro pals. Which was okay at first, but then they finished off all their arc wine in about 2 days so they totally got into the back-up supply of mana juice and got kind of out of control and are not really being respectful of the Sunwell which is a little uncool. And then word somehow got out to Sven and his emo Void Elf crew, so now they are hanging around writing super dark poetry and getting all tendril-y with anyone who gets too close. Gross. Finally Hippolyta and the rest of her goody-two-shoes High Elf friends arrived and are just sitting around being all judgmental and stuff.
