Fully customizable UI

They put the Achievement alert popup smack-dab where a lot of people have their action bars, with no way of moving it. So if you get an achievement, you are stuck waiting for the box to fade away before you can click anything under it.

And they haven’t given us a way to move the alert box.

So yeah WE CAN MOVE THINGS. But they block off extremely important screen real estate, preventing us from making good use of the fact that WE CAN MOVE THINGS.

Congrats Bliz.

I’d care less about it if the default new UI setup were closer to the old one, or at least didn’t have stuff overlapping and really, really weirdly sized. The little menu buttons on the lower right are TINY and not resizable, the bag icons too. The default action bar layout now overlaps the chat window. The text size is inconsistent and too small (and I can’t see an option now to resize just text?) Some of the frames (cast bar, achieve frame) are shoved underneath the action bar locations by default.

Sure, I took the time to customise the layout but it was a hecking shock to log in and find the default layout is an unusable mess. If you’re going to update the UI to be customisable - great! Fab. Then do so. Allow moving and resizing of -all- UI elements and text, not just most of them. Also, have your default settings be… y’know, functional.

far from fully customizable

There are several things I like about the new UI, but I also feel Blizzard missed the mark when they could have taken time and actually looked at what features users are using addons to accomplish. Some very key features they completely did not include. I was really hoping that I could drop ElvUI with this, but at this point I still can’t.

But things that I wish they actually included are:

  1. Ability to move windows around (e.g. open bags window, map, tradeskill window) outside of Edit mode so I can move it on the fly as needed and out of the way.

  2. Be able to move the mirco bar.

  3. Be able to move the pet unitframe off of the user unitframe.

  4. Be able to move the XP bar and rep bar.

  5. Able to move bars in Edit Mode using more precise ways such as number input or move arrows.

  6. Ability to move the map title bar off of the map not just top or bottom of the map.

  7. Be able to resize the map or be able to change between circle/square.

  8. Ability to add background (even just solid black) to empty buttons.

  9. Set Action Bars to display on hover.

  10. Ability to make personal bank to combine bag as well.

  11. More customization to the unitframes.

  12. Be able to resize or change the direction of the XP bar and rep bar.

  13. Be able to hide the bag bar or micro bar.

  14. Resize the height or width of the cast bar ( not just make it bigger or smaller).

  15. Ability to hide or move the target’s target unitframe apart from the target’s unitframe.

  16. Ability to move the Target’s cast bar apart from the target’s unitframe.

  17. Ability to move alert boxes and adjust their fade time.

I haven’t even started looking at the raiding or grouping stuff yet.

My fear is that this is going to be much like many other “improvements” that has come out half done. Blizzard promise more to come down the pipe, but it just gets kicked down the road and never done. If this is just the start and more is going to come (and they follow through with it). Okay, but they should also have some better premades ready for users to be able to load and go.

Hey just seeing this post and wanted to chime in incase you havnt figured this out because I completely missed it… while in edit mode if you click the chat window there is a resizer in the bottom right of the yellow chat window. Impossible to see due to the color scheme they picked. White…ish arrow on a yellow window is difficult for most to find.

So are you FINALLY ready to admit that no, people don’t suck at editing the UI, the UI customization is not nearly robust enough?

The fact that you can’t move some elements and can’t resize others is insane. The minimap alone needs to die. I went fifteen years without needing an addon to change my UI, and now I need one.

My issue is that there isn’t anywhere near enough options. It will still be outdone by addons. Maybe like, bartender is obsolete now? But between auras, bars, plates, and frames Blizz still comes nowhere close.

No you can not change it to how you like it. I liked how it was before the patch. Show me the option to make it like that>?

Out of all the threads that have come of this, didn’t expect this one to be full of decent replies.

Blizzard if you’re out there somewhere, look through what people have said here.

That, unfortunately, you can’t do and I don’t like that. And I didn’t like it back in Alpha either.

But a lot of the other complaints about this revamped UI are kinda cringe.

I want my old interface.

Not this new age third party hack job crap.

I did that… I found a lot of adjustments I could make… and more than I could not. why can’t I move or adjust micro bar? I hate where my menu buttons and bags are at this time.
why can’t I more or adjust my xp bar? why can’t I resize a lot of the boxes? (yes I can resize action bars and I did so, but there are a lot of boxes that do not have that option)
why does it shuffle all my icons on the bars when I change their appearance, so that my keybinds are out of wack?

I was really hoping that this will replace my UI addons… but somehow after all these years… they still can’t get it as well as the addon creators?

oh and apparently some of the windows that you CAN move and adjust… reset their position even after you save. yay! >_>

The “old” UI should be the DEFAULT. Like sure let me boot in, all my crap is where I left it and let them handhold me through how I can change it. I’d not of changed a thing because it was simple and clean and didn’t feel so cluttered. Now every time I swap classes I have to fix it and I am glad I am not the only one who is disgusted and absolutely annoyed at the elitist vibes saying it’s somehow our fault the once again “Fixed” Something that was not broken.

There are definitely some big asks here. Of course the new UI will not have more functionality then add-ons dedicated to customization. But a EXP/Rep bar that can’t be moved? LOL??? A mini-map that can only be rescaled with the UI scale option ( Which for WHATEVER reason, works in increments of 4%, or 5%, or sometimes 6%, no in between, seems kind of arbitrary)
It’s a nice jest to finally try something new, but also feels like a slap in the face when people who have seen the new UI for only a couple hours can spot some pretty off and just arbitrary decisions. I know nothing about coding, but would adding sliders to the map/bags/quest menu ect. really be that difficult?

I’d like to make the system icons and bag icons a different shape, position and possibly size. But hey, they didn’t add that option.

I think it’s the apparently immovable achieve popup window that’s slap bang under the default action bar position that you can’t click through and have to wait for it to fade that’s causing my head to spin most right now.
Just… the default UI positioning isn’t remotely functional.

Oddly enough to most, changing those things could possibly interfere with a lot of fundamental aspects of the game that most of us wouldn’t even think about, yet due to WoW’s EXTREMELY old code it uses for those sorts of things, just altering them in the slightest could be game breaking lol. So I can understand the care they’re taking in that direction.

All I know is that I had a very customized and useful and efficient UI yesterday using the Dominos UI addon.

Now that addon is broken, don’t know if or when it will get fixed, so I tried to set things up as close as I could to what I had yesterday, and just kept getting frustrated with the lack of options I had yesterday but don’t have today.

Not to mention frustrating design choices: if I have a bar set up as 3 buttons across and 4 down, Dominos number them from top left to lower right, in order. But this UI does the bottom row first, then the second to bottom, and on UP. When I read a page, I read down, not up. I was able to work around that by reorganizing my icons and keybinds, but still, very annoying.

Another problem: I have some action bars down the right side of my screen. When I open my bags, they get displayed over those bars, not next to them like they did yesterday. Even more annoying is when I move something in a bag that could be placed on an action bar, the game assumes I’m moving that item not to put it elsewhere in my bags like I’m trying to do, but rather the game assumes that I’m trying to put that item onto those actions bars, so the action bars get displayed over my bags down the right side. Now I can’t move those items, like gear or consumables, to spots on the right side of those bags because the action bars are being shown on top of them. I’ve inadvertently dropped the items not into the right side of my bags but onto the action bars instead. Very frustrating. It’s like we aren’t supposed to put any bars down the right side of the screen where the bags are displayed.

And don’t get me started on how I had four of my bars, which were full of stuff, completely wiped out and empty, so now I have to refill them on every toon with what I had set up, and it was usually different for each character, too, so that it going to take a long while to set all back up again.

Very, very frustrating day just trying to get things back to where they were yesterday, and it seems like it will take me hours over the next several days to even start to fix everting and put it back the way it was yesterday.

/moo :cow:

it is a option actually… you can change the size of each action bar how many buttons it has if its vertical or not. just look at the options silly. this new ui does more then most add ons we have ever had

its hard to see but the option is there in edit mode. they need to make it where you can change it like the old way as well though
