I'm wondering why there is no actual full screen mode but instead a full screen windowed mode? I have a 144 hz 1ms gaming monitor and every time I had run it in Windowed mode before in WoD or Legion, like running the kids account side by side for things, it was always stuck at 60 hz (didn't look at the frame rates then). I would like to assume that it will run it at 144 when selecting the Monitor #1 but not seeing the option for it , makes me wonder what it's actually running at. Anyone else got a way of seeing what you're actually running at?

Because Microsoft dropped full screen support from DX12.

You can still leave feedback in the appropriate venues, though, if you'd like to see the devs try (keyword) to find a workaround to restore fullscreen. Most likely they can't, but no harm in asking.
Beyond that, I'm sure there are places where you can let Microsoft know that you'd like fullscreen support restored to DirectX.

You're going to be running at whatever your windows refresh rate is set to. assuming your computer can pump that out, of course.

Thanks. Seems to be a lot of talk about this after looking it up. Haven't ran into it before because most of my games through Steam have the option for running 144 Hz and in full screen including the new FarCry 5 and Ghost Recon games. I guess just keep an eye on fps and see what it does.

Just a note, it's been proven that those game are not actually running in true full screen mode, the simply use a windowed full screen to fake it. You won't see a difference if you are running Windows 10...

It was in a thread from a website somewhere, I would have to search again... But it was when I was looking all this up to see what was going on. Some tech forum where a bunch of programmers were talking about the API and what it can and can't do. Someone tested it.

DX11 still supports full screen tho. Why has the option been removed for DX11 also? A large army of the community still use DX11 and not having a full screen mode makes it unplayable for most. Stuttering and FPS drops are just too much in Windowed full screen
Per Blizzard "The Fullscreen exclusive option was removed with the pre-patch to improve the overall performance and stability of the game client. If you are experiencing performance issues following the update, try the steps outlined in this support article."

The good ol delete addons and reset them response. This needs to be addressed properly not their cookie cutter !@#$. Put Full screen back for DX11 users blizz

I'd buy the expansion right now if Blizz would just add true fullscreen back. Not being able to us G-sync is beyond frustrating and has ruined the game for me.
ugh =(

Per Blizzard "The Fullscreen exclusive option was removed with the pre-patch to improve the overall performance and stability of the game client. The new API we have implemented isn't working right on at least half the cards out there, and we recommend you wait for a driver from the vendor, which they may or may not release in the future. If you are experiencing performance issues following the update, try the steps outlined in this support article. If you use anything that relied on Fullscreen Exclusive to work properly, you are basically hosed. Feel free to look at this support article that doesn't actually address any of those issues. "

lol pretty much. In my case, I'm waiting for Nvidia to optimize wow to play in windowed mode because Blizzard devs can't be bothered. I don't see how they are improving performance when this affects more than half of their user base using Nvidia products. But hey, the forums have been entertaining since 8.0.
Temporary fix - bring back fullscreen mode for dx11 until dx12 has been optimized and runs faster than two old people "doing bad things to each other in a bedroom setting". <---- I could have used one word for all of this but kept it PG-13

Because Microsoft dropped full screen support from DX12.
Incorrect, DX12 is perfectly capable of supporting Fullscreen, but it is just simply provided by a separate library called DXGI. Both DX11 and DX12 can use exactly the same DXGI devices and if DX11 supports fullscreen - DX12 should do it too. And there are no signs, that fullscreen is marked as deprecated or it's support is dropped.
There are even direct samples from Microsoft themselves on GitHub on how DX12 uses exclusive Fullscreen.
I have a problem with resolutions... I used to play fullscreen mode because 1. I don't like upper and lower window borders when I play and 2. I could change the resolution.
Fullscreen windowed mode doesn't give an option of resolutions (it's grayed out)... whenever I try it in windowed mode, I choose resolutions but no matter what I change it to (and hit apply), nothing is changed.
For me, everything is too squished / skinny (my characters all look like they're 1/2 inch wide and 8 feet tall)... the text window is shrunk down and it's hard to read things. I can't even recall what resolution I had it set to (I think it was 1600 X 900) but I *NEED* my screen wider, but no matter what I set things to, it's still appearing (what looks like) the 1920 X 1280 (or whatever the highest setting is) resolution. My graphics card program is set to not automatically adjust game settings (as I play Borderlands 2 via Steam at a 1600 X 1050 mode) and instead everything is set for each individual game to have its own settings.
It's to the point where it's so difficult to see / play that this expansion that I was looking forward to, I might have to cancel my subscription / stop all playing before it even comes out.

After reading up on this on site after site after site with Win 10 and DX12. Quote from one site I found.
"Microsoft is pushing DX12 games (and maybe not just those sold in the app store) to render through a standardized pipeline that uses the Windows compositing engine. In fact, from what I can tell, any game that is sold through the Windows App Store will be required to do so. Rendering through the Windows compositing engine is very similar to running in the borderless windowed mode that we have today (in that tearing is impossible but uncapped frame rates are also difficult to deal with). Microsoft has several reasons for this, most of which involve support for the various overlays and integrations that the company would like to integrate with Windows games. MS wants to have an Action bar, a recording bar, on-screen keyboard support for running games on tablets and 2-in-1s and more, all of which require overlay support and pushing games through the Windows compositing engine will allow them to do that in a standardized way. This post over at the PC Master Race subreddit gives even more examples of things that are going to change for games that are released through Microsoft’s Store implementation. No modding, no custom mouse bindings, no controller support outside of Xbox controllers; clearly this is going to shake up our lives as PC gamers. I also don’t think that you’ll be able to live stream out your games through XSplit and OBS either."
So, when is Blizz releasing a Linux version?

Then you're running in "windowed" mode. You want "windowed (fullscreen)" mode.

Againt, if you are seeing bars or anything, then you're running in "windowed" mode. Switch to "windowed (fullscreen)" mode.
Fullscreen Windowed is completely different. My FPS was fine in old fullscreen. On Fullscreen windowed my resolution is all messed up and my screen is very awkward and uncomfortable to look at.
