Thros/Gorak possibly retcon’d to having tapped into the Maw rather than the Emerald Nightmare “Long ago, the Drust were ruled by a sorcerer king named Gorak Tul. It was he who perverted our ancient druidic rituals and set my people upon the path of death and domination.”; Devs said that the Runecarver/Maw has the power of “Domination” in interviews
Thank God cuz the “Drust are Old God minions” angle was dumb as hell, Thros being an inbetween the Maw and Drustvar slaps and Gorak being allied to the Jailer is much better.
Blizzard never said the Drust were Old God Minions just that they located the Nightmare.
Yogg-Saron is the Old God of Death so him and the Nightmare being tied to the Maw wouldn’t surprise me.
A Void Lord spawned Old God being tied to Death sounds ridiculous and for all we know it is ridiculous and Yogg-Saron is not created by the Void Lords!
The Barrowknoll Cemetery Whispers are probably references to the Jailer and possibly Yogg-Saron who might lurk inside the Maw not the Void…
This is all they would have had to tell me, and I’d be 110% on board with the Mueh’zala stuff. As it is, the whole plotline of helping one evil loa supplant another evil loa is probably the low point of the Covenant for me. If not the expansion (toss up between that, and Maldraxxus’ “Scourge, but with honor” angle).
That’s interesting though. Too bad she never told Mal “Btw, there’s a skull-bear-guy I know that you should meet”. I’d love to be a fly on the wall for that.
He supports the Zandalari and Darkspear, and by extension, the Horde. Not much difference between him and Mueh’zala, save in the scope of the evils they serve. Horde being a planetary BBEG (when they don’t have the Dark Portal), and the Jailer being a cosmic BBEG.
Edit: It’s not because of his bone face and death powers. Ulfar has both, and I love the guy.
Agreed. The Drust using death magic just fits a thousand times better. Thematically, visually, all of it. I never would have associated them with the Emerald Nightmare of all things if not for that single answer in an interview.
God I love Bwon, and I am so happy Blizz seems to be rolling with what I had hoped we got from him. He may love playing with the living, and he adores his bargains, but he does take his duty to the dead very seriously. I am also very happy about events involving him and Talanji in Shadows Rising. The guy is now the patron Loa of both Horde Troll tribes, and it seems like he might be able to stick around.
Honestly I really loved their necro-nature aesthetic. Having only recently done BFA Alliance content I’d assumed it was connected to the Drust witchcraft and honestly still think that would’ve been a better answer than any of this.
Imagine if they did know each other but they despise each other because Malfurion is a Nature Hipster and Ulfar is Edgy Goth Nature Bro lol
Yet another instance where one can easily reconcile the two statements by saying “Drust were always accessing Ardenweald Druidry, but accidentally tapped into the Maw, and then when Yogg birthed the Nightmare on Azeroth, their realm was further corrupted, so Thros is a pocket dimension crossroads of the Dream, Nightmare, Ardenweald, and the Maw.”
Yeah him and the wild god moose pet he has are reunited after we saved/released the moose spirit during Legion (forgot his name) and they are part of the Wild Hunt protecting Ardenweald
