i need to build a new comp. i want to possibly try and get into water cooling ( custom ) but idk yet. basically i just use my comp mostly for gaming and i mainly play WoW i play other games very seldom.
idc much for graphics tbh i prefer better gameplay then very nice graphics but i want a tower where i can customize and build easily long term but the basis is the same i rarely will really play graphic intensive games.
biggest issue for me is just parts fitting ( bought a full atx before parts were supposed to fit but didn’t for some reason. ) also just dust build up my room gets EXTREMELY… dusty. it also gets very hot/humid where i live year round.
so should i got for a full atx or super atx case? i likely won’t even upgrade parts for like 5+ years down the line
Do you remember the model of the full ATX case you bought before? Full ATX is huge, so any parts not fitting in it is more a quirk of that particular case than a function of the form factor.
I usually build in ATX mid-towers, which gives plenty of room for massive GPUs, huge air cooler towers, etc. Room for water cooler radiators is more hit or miss, varying between models, but practically all ATX mid-towers can fit a 240mm radiator in their fronts.
Here’s how I’d recommend selecting a case and building a system around it:
- Go to PCPartPicker to find a case that meets your specifications and budget
- Look through PCPartPicker’s build gallery to get an idea of what parts people are using with the case and what quirks they encountered
- Find reviews for the case on YouTube. There are lots of great reviewers on there but one of the best is GamersNexus, which is thorough and unbiased
- Return to PCPartPicker and fill out the rest of your build, where it’ll help you by filtering the parts it shows to only those compatible with your selected case and warn you about conflicts
What full tower do you currently have? What parts did not fit it? You may not need a new case at all unless you just don’t like it and want to move on.
One thing to consider for super large towers is the length of cables.
I was running a Corsair 750D at one point, and it was a struggle to get the PSU cables to reach the top SATA Optical drive, as well as the top fans.
At least with any semblance of proper cable management.
im running a corsair 900D atm i don’t seem to have any issues besides cable management XD. this tower way too big though and i can’t save it way too much dust and poop built up.
i dont remember what tower it was that was like 7 years ago. but the pre built water cooler for the cpu didn’t fit. it said it should but the holes didn’t even line up at all. they were mm’s off.
Giant case is usually better due to more air flow and cool air. If you can deal with few issues like cable length and the size, go for it.
yea that is what i figured which i need the air flow for where i live and how much hours im running my PC as well. i ended up deciding just going for a full atx not a super atx.
kinda debating on what parts i should buy for my needs though case i already know which one i want but like mobo, cpu, gpu idk yet. kinda want to splurge but i know that will be money wasted since i dont normally play games that require all that expensive stuff like $1k+ gpu and cpu’s
Yeah, just go regular mid tower case like the examples below. It will get the job done.
Fractal Design Define 7, S2, Meshify S2
Phanteks Eclipse P500A
I’m a fan of CPU cooler clearance.
