Frustrations as a Returning Player in Dragonflight
I came back to WoW hoping to enjoy Dragonflight, but as a returning/casual player I keep hitting walls that make the game feel more like work than fun.
- Missing Flight Masters: NPCs like Steward Argalos just aren’t showing up even after prerequisites and resets, leaving me blocked on flight paths.
- Chromie Lockout at 68: Leveling my new Dracthyr through Dragonflight, I hit 68 and suddenly Chromie locked me out, while the rest of the Dragonflight quests were gated until 70. I had to grind levels instead of continuing the story.
- Quest Scatter & Backtracking: Progress often pushes me back into older expansions I never played, chasing breadcrumbs instead of focusing on Dragonflight.
- Broken Portals & Connections: Some portals and flight paths don’t function right, adding to the frustration.
As someone who plays a few months at a time and comes back after years away, this design makes it hard to stick around. I want to enjoy the story and the world, but instead I’m grinding, backtracking, and getting stuck. It’s disappointing enough that I’m not sure if I’ll keep buying expansions, even though Midnight looks interesting.
I know this feedback is in three places, but each forum serves a different purpose: Bug Report for devs/QA, Customer Support for GM visibility, and General Discussion so players can share experiences. It’s the same issue, but I wanted to make sure it reached the right audiences. Not trying to spam—just hoping it gets noticed.
If you’ve run into these roadblocks too, chime in. Blizzard needs to hear how frustrating this is for returning/casual players.

Holy chat gpt formatting.
Funny—if formatting makes it readable, I’ll take that as a compliment.
That looks like the regular formatting that we can do ourselves.

You can play Chromie to 71. I did on this toon. I didn’t use the scroll - maybe that was the issue? I levelled Anzath here in Pandaria. At 71 I got the 60 second timer that removed me to Orgrimmar.
ETA: if you were removed at 68 and didn’t use the scroll, that seems like a bug. As I said, I was able to take Anzath to 71 in Chromie Time.
Update on Missing Flight Path/GM Response
Just wanted to share an update since I originally posted about Steward Argalos not showing up.
Another GM (Uguligumya) got back to me, and while they confirmed it’s a known bug and appreciated my forum report, they also said there’s nothing they can directly do—it’s on the dev side now. At least that was more helpful than being handed links to things that don’t apply.
When I was a kid, GMs had all kinds of magic powers. I don’t expect them to fix everything instantly, but I do expect real communication instead of canned replies or being brushed off. Players don’t come to GMs for busywork, we come because we’re stuck and need help.
I don’t need a fix right this second—I just want to know my issue is understood and being taken seriously.
I don’t really consider any of it a roadblock. The game simply changes as you level up and it’s important to change with it. If you want to continue in dragon flight, you simply stay at your level and continue in dragon flight. There’s no wrong way to play this game And backtracking is a buzz word. We all go back to Legacy content at some point for any reason because we choose to.
