Frustrations of a Mistweaver Main

I thoroughly enjoy World of Warcraft on many levels. However, the struggle lately has been harder than in recent memory. It isn’t because the content is difficult. No, it is because of where the class is in comparison to the perception that the community has of the other healing classes. Perhaps you haven’t noticed but Mistweaver Monks are dying off and there is a problem with a class that I have loved since inception.

Our lack of utility is a constant thorn in the side of Mistweavers that are attempting to do anything in Mythic+ that is higher than a 14. I am currently at 221 Ilvl and my IO score is above 1250, and I am missing only three dungeons to get the achievement of Keystone Master and the coveted mount that comes with it. So where do I begin… Countless hours of being denied access to groups as they often go with other healers…

Reasons:
Shaman… Lust/Heroism and Srez…
Druid… Brez
Paladin… Insane damage for a healer…

This is the current state of affairs as I continue to finish up on my achievement. It doesn’t feel right to be completely out gearing content and more often than not, being passed up not due to skill or equipment but due to the class I am representing and what the class is lacking. Something needs to be done. I do not understand why the Mistweaver is in such a bad position currently. It seems as though there is an easy fix, pump their damage up to match that of the Holy Paladin and bring their insane mana cost down. I am currently running a Shaman as an alt and I am 207, getting into groups that I really shouldn’t be getting into based on the lack of gear. I am sure that the 1255 Main IO score is assisting me with such group admittance, but it still doesn’t feel right.

Please… show this class a little bit of love, we need something that puts us not above other classes but in a spot that we are competitive in the eyes of the community. You see, it isn’t that we can’t do the content… but we are lacking something that allows us to be desired. That is the key… I feel as though a quick fix is the damage output. Crank the 500 to 1.5k dmg up to what the Paladins are doing, and I feel like you would see a turn around in the monk community. That 1.5k to 2k is often because of lust and dps trinkets that I may equip in my quest to finish this achievement.

I wish you all a wonderful night, I have been holding this in for awhile now, and like breast reduction, I just had to get it off my chest.

I still feel like people overstate HPally DPS.

It’s really strong in short bursts with CDs/certain talents. But if there’s actual healing to be done, their DPS will plummet. They don’t get healing from their DPS other than a lil indirectly from Crusader Strike and Judgment (if both are talented). They do crazy burst DPS on farm / easy moments. Which I understand is still beneficial, but people make it sound like they’re just doing 10k DPS while also nonstop healing, and they’re just not.

Play Brewmaster.
Sucks but you signed up for it when you picked a hybrid.
I played resto for most of BFA with balance as an off spec to fill in groups. I was planning to play resto in SL too but after multiple nerfs to resto and buffs to balance I couldn’t stay as healer if I wanted to get things done. I am expecting nerfs to boomie coming in 9.1 so I’m mentally ready to play guardian if it comes to that.

I made a shaman to see what all the rage is about. I will tell you this much, I am not working nearly as hard on my shaman as I do my Monk. At 207, I can maintain 4khps and I have seen my numbers jump to over 8k when it really gets strenuous.

As for the Paladin, after I finish my Keystone Master Achievement, I plan to finishing leveling my Lightforged and take them through the gauntlet of Mythic dungeons and see what all the rage is about.

No healer can do damage when there’s “actual healing to be done”, not even disc.
The problem is that paladin has the option to make up in damage during downtime; the other healers do not, not even disc.

I was speaking with a person who went with the Paladin over me… he said… their utility is their damage… and I just sat their shaking my head…

Blessing of Freedom is their damage?! :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I get that, but playing flavor of the month was never my thing. I love the Mistweaver and I am going to ride and die on this “heal” you know?

It’s not flavor of the month, I’m still playing the class I want. It’s flexibility.

Welcome to mistweaver. If you enjoy it, stick with it and make some friends. If you don’t, roll a different healer. We can heal 15+ fine but community perception and our lack of utility outside of ring is what it is.

I’m not trying to be mean they just never touch us so while I get where you are coming from you’re in for a world of pain if you are hoping it will get better anytime soon.

Is the 8k including Spirit Link cheese? Because that ability is insanely useful, but it’s not actually healing, it’s redistributing that shows up as healing on meters.

I take absolutely no offense to what you have said. I know this, you know this but we lack something that makes us desirable to where someone is like… “man, get that monk before another group nabs them.”

You know what I find interesting, the Shaman has a ranged interrupt… Yet they took the melee interrupt away from us.

Yeah spear hand has always made sense for us to have. I assume they don’t give it to use because of ring (aoe), leg swap (aoe) and paralysis (st) though, all of which kinda sorta interrupt.

I had a lot of stuff going on when I did it. It was during a 12, massive pull of two groups in Necrotic Wake. It is possible that Spirit link was going off, but it was sustained for the pull and I was thinking to myself… “easy peasy”

I mean it’s not just the lack of utility, it’s the lack of aoe healing. MW monk aoe healing is terrible. You’ve got 1 decent aoe heal on a 3 min CD and then essence font doesn’t heal enough for the mana cost.

Shamans can talent an AOE crowd control stun and root… so… where is our “throat punch”? ha ha

That laugh is really hiding real pain… that was for you Deadpool

Shamans get cap totem baseline the same way we get leg sweep. I’m not sure what you’re referring to. But shamans have always been super useful when it comes to utility.

Earthgrab Totem is talented… I often use it in situations that I would have used RoP for, such as assisting the tank in kiting mobs or causing explosion mobs to detonate at a safe distance.

I can’t think of any situation where I’d take earth grab. Maybe PF, but especially if you’re pugging that sounds like a wasted talent row.

ROP is significantly >> earth grab or even earth bind any day of the week. But that isn’t the point.

I was looking at Riptide and comparing it to Renewing Mist. ha ha ha… it will just make you die a little more on the inside. I swear to you, Riptide at 207 ilvl was more effective than Renewing Mist at 220 ilvl, both in healing and in mana consumption.
