After an hour of diligent fishing across all four pools known for yielding the spiked sea raven, I found myself empty-handed. This is quite frustrating. Fish like this & the rainbow fish and others should have dedicated pools or, at the very least, an increased RNG chance for their capture. To spend a full hour failing a quest due solely to random chance feels like a waste of time—not on the player’s part, but rather a misstep on Blizzard’s end.
It’s disheartening that both a level 1 and a level 300 fishing character can equally struggle to catch these fish. This aspect of game design is lacking and certainly warrants attention from the developers.
I think part of the issue is 300 fishing is still low and, unless you’re aware of this, you won’t know you can boost that quite a bit to make it much easier to catch all the fish you need.
If you pick up cooking, you can buy a recipe from the derby NPC for 10 marks. This souldbound (which is why you need to make it yourself) buff food gives you +30 fishing and +150 perception. Then use a lure for another +9. Add whatever from what pole you’re using. This doesn’t even account for additional +fishing gear or the weaverline enchant bonuses.
I was able to catch 19/20 unique fish within ~40 mins just by hitting all the various pools with 347 fishing and 150+ perception. I don’t have any weaverline on my pole yet.
