Am I missing something? I thought Blizz fixed fishing pools to allow multiple players to fish out of them without depleting them faster?? I have had SO many rude people land and start fishing out the Hallowfall blood pool that I’m fishing from. The pool almost immediately despawns. Between that and the infuriating amount of cursed ghoulfish I’m constantly pulling from them, the slum shark farming experience is very unfun and frustrating.
This post will not help with the frustration thing, you were warned. There was no ‘fix’ to the pools, the pools behave as they have behaved since the dawn of WoW. The pools that are up for a set amount of time are the deep ice holes in the azure span in DF. I too am nostalgic of those pools. Met a lot of nice peoples at those.
Sorry you met some rude. Outside of the derby I usually leave well enough alone… Unless they start it and I remember them. Go to spiderlands, I see less anglers there and they have shark pools.
There are also quite the number of people who presume that fishing pools, work the same as herbs / ores in that it’s 5-6 casts for anyone fishing from that pool.
i.e. - I get 5 casts, you get 5 casts, etc.
I’ve run into a number of people who think it just works the same way and didn’t realize that the pool is global casts and not individual. I only say this, because I thought people were just being rude, but it turned out when I spoke with them, some just thought pools worked the same as ore/herbs.
It’s perplexing why they have Mining and Herbalism nodes work with a new mechanic but not with fishing pools. I mean WHY wouldn’t they do the same with fishing pools?
Prolly cause it would promptly kill the fish market? One shark is worth 1k atm. Change the mechanics à la herb/ore nodes and you flood the market. See that shark take a nosedive’s.
The derby had slum shark today. I was ready to sacrifice Anduin to the shark gods when I finally found a pool.
Nope.
As to whether or not it’s rude to tap a pool when someone else is fishing on it, that is up for debate and always has been. I am old school and avoid doing this at pretty much all cost unless provoked. If someone comes up and taps a pool I’m fishing in already, I will leave. If they follow me, I will then aggressively do the same to them until they leave.
Unless it’s derby. In derby, we’re being timed and all bets are off there.
I feel that it’s rude to fish in an already-claimed pool, and I don’t do it unless it’s a blood in the water pool on Derby Day.
But many players from Vanilla to this day see nothing wrong with it and never have. I tell this story sometimes because it’s relevant. I had a guy come up to me in Shadowlands while I was fishing. He was new to fishing and thought that it was considered social and polite to fish together in one pool. Sweet as he could be and chatted the entire time and asked questions about fishing. I started off that encounter annoyed that this random guy was following me around and putting his bobber down in my pools…my pools. But they were not my pools and he was not being rude.
You never know what a player’s intentions are, and it’s best to give benefit of doubt.
How I Farm Fish in TWW
I make hearty feasts of the divine day for my guild group M+ runs when we do keys over 7.
I go out to the rivers on Isle of Dorn and catch a big pile of bloody perch (20 or so, takes less than 10 minutes). Then, I go to my favorite fishing spot in the Azj Kahet (nothing special or secret, just anywhere you feel like standing) and start tossing in the perch one at a time. Having the “increased chance to catch dogfish” buff also increases your chance to catch more bloody perch and kaheti sharks. It essentially turns the water into a blood pool–just one with a larger loot table.
Now, this won’t work for derby because it would take too long to get your quest fish, but it works for regular farming better than pool hopping (assuming you’re gonna fish for a solid block of time).
I catch more Kaheti Sharks and Dogfish this way than I do in the same timeframe with pool hopping.
Toss a bloody perch into the open water. Fish until the 5min buff drops to one minute or less. Toss in another BEFORE THE BUFF DROPS. Repeat until you catch a dogfish and then start again.
The goal isn’t just to catch dogfish for my feasts. It’s to catch sharks, dogfish, and piles and piles of bloody perch for fillet after we’re done. Use honeycomb when cooking the feasts et voila, you get a week’s worth of hearty feasts for the price of 1-2 hours standing on a raft in spider land. I highly recommend this activity for people who listen to audiobooks and podcasts.
To me, this dynamic is the most successful “personal farming” experience I’ve had with this expansion. There are likely more efficient ways to do it, but this is the way I find simple, interesting, and fun for solitary fishing.
That is so useful! I don’t fish much but the bf does. And our RL just spent 500k on Kaheti slum sharks…T.T I can’t imagine plopping one down every +7 and above key… That’s a lot of sharks!
And I have hundreds of bloody perch too… Sounds like my BF is getting some fishing instructions lol
I only do the divine day feasts so that I can sell the sharks.
The divine day feast is the one that requires 5 dogfish (much easier and cheaper, too), 200 fillets, and a bunch of chopped mycobloom and vendor ingredients.
The quickest/least hassle way to catch the 200 fillets instead of buying them is all in isle of dorn. You fish stargazer swarms or bloody perch schools so that you get many of ONE fish for the fillets. I also find that open water fishing with high skill in Azj Kahet gets mostly minnows, so that’s a good way to do it, too.
If you make the feasts using honeycomb, you get TONS from 3 or 4 cooking casts, and then you have a nice stack of hearties for the week.
It’s really cheap and easy.
Oh I asked my RL why he wasn’t making that one but he was convinced it was more expensive. It did sound easier and dogfish I have a bunch of those.
TBH im perfectly fine with them working this way. It keeps the market in demand, which means prices stay up.
I for one will gladly deal with some one sniping my pond and getting 1 maybe 2 of the casts outta it if it means that Slum sharks stay cooking at 1k a pop.
So I tried this out and alas it looks like I’ll have to work on my weaverline a bit more before azj-kahet open water fishing will work for me. While the bf and I were watching a movie, I fished absent-mindedly. Still I ended the movie with 16 slum sharks and 6 dogfish, which is not bad considering how much more I need to level my weaverline and how little attention I was paying to the bloody chum buff.
Apparently the bf already knew this trick, he just been too busy with delves and keys (he’s the mt of the raid so whenever he hops on he’s inundated with requests to tank).
Thanks again for the tip!
