Frustrated, Not sure what I honestly want to do

Been leveling this priest with the intention of healing endgame. After doing some dungeons, I’m starting to have second thoughts. I’ve fiddled around with other options in the past (this isn’t my first time with vanilla), and have tried so again, but I’m reached a canundrum where I can’t seem to find anything else I’d rather do.

My problem is, I seem to want something out of Classic that is just unfeasible. It’s not really a simple matter of wanting some meme spec to be viable. It’s more like, all 3 roles just have some sort of drawback that makes me reluctant to play them.

Be a tank (the role I had the most fun as)? Be forced to deal with hideous tier sets (I really, really truly despise warrior tier sets, especially tier 2. They’re far too garish and cartoony, and don’t suit most races), and struggle to even get a guild because most guilds lock down their handful of tanks early on and the turnover rate for them is extremely low so if you don’t start off early you’re never gonna tank outside 5 mans or mediocre guilds that are struggling for people.

Be a DPS? Play your designated dps classes/specs or have fun not getting raid invites (unless you just want to do 5 mans forever), and spam 1 ability over the vast majority of your time.

Be a healer? Enjoy standing around with nothing to do half the time, or having your role rendered irrelevant once content is on farm because you and your team are so powerful you virtually never need to heal. Enjoy never really feeling that sense of reward for getting stronger because you are punished by become less and less relevant the more strong you get as a healer.

It just seems like…nothing’s really enjoyable in the longterm. Tanks have severely limited raid spots and horrendous tier sets, dps are mindnumbing 1-button pressers, healers are punished for getting stronger by becoming less necessary.

And I’d enjoy being able to customize my character’s appearance, but of course without transmog I’m forced to wear whatever garish designs Blizzard made for my class. Part of the enjoyment for me (when I started during TBC) of raiding was the cool tier sets, to be able to walk around and play in those amazing sets. But when I hate what they look like, I don’t feel that excited to get that gear.

I just wish their was more…options, depth. You know? I hate what retail did to the game but it honestly did make great improvements in some of these areas.

Your playing the wrong game, have you tried hello kitty island adventure? More spec options

I don’t think so honestly. It seems I want a version of WoW that doesn’t exist and may have never existed.

I want to tank, but I want to not have next to zero options in getting a raid spot and not have to play the class with the worst tier sets in the game.

I want to dps, but I want to be engaged rather than just spam 1 button over and over, and I want to play specs I want to play rather than only the designated classes/specs.

I want to heal, but I want my role to feel rewarding rather than punishing as growing stronger instead feels good rather than trivializing my role into irrelevance as I and my group become too strong to really need me other than the occassional heal every now and then.

I just can’t seem to be satisfied.

Yeah. Sorry bub. Maybe give eso a go.

Have you tried playing retail? I know how it sounds but hear me out:

-You want to tank? Not a problem! Any tank is viable for your average pug / guild

-You want to press more than one button as a DPS? Not a problem! Every DPS spec has a 3-5 button rotation, more if you consider CD’s, essences, trinkets.

-You want to feel relevant as a healer while on farm? Not a problem! You can actually cut healers to make the fight more challenging while reducing kill times and therefore time on farm.

Retail does everything you want. You don’t have to ride the classic hype train. Retail wow still exists and is the better game to some people.

No transmog! I like being able tell what someone is wearing or which weapon they have, just by looking at them from a distance.

You’re just burning out on mmorpgs. Almost all options will give you the same result and you’ll just be left sighing and wondering why it never sticks. I took a break from gaming and it feels right again.

Be a healer but choose not to stand around doing nothing, and contribute some dps instead.

PvP then? It is much more dynamic than 1-2 button rotations.

Seriously just go out into the world and start some fights, it can be super fun!

You’re at level 16 dude. This is all psychological. You sound depressed.

Give hunter a chance:
Classic end game rotation is one of the more complex and fun of all classes.
Armor sets are visually good.
Can keep interest by investing time in other activities such as taming rares like Brokentooth (fastest attack speed pet in game), mastering your professions and crafting usable items, perfecting CC, pet control, melee weapon skills. PVP… hunters are good again. Hit and run with auto shot timer can be strong.

In the end though, it is what you make it like all the classes. Each has pros and cons.
I’ve found that if displaying a genuine and good attitude toward others goes further to repeat invite requests than any class/race/dps desired. Get a good guild, try out multiple races and classes. If none appeal to you after giving each a fair shakedown find other entertainment that makes you happy. Life’s too short to dwell and anything that causes negative frustration. Personally, I’m having a blast adventuring with my hunter and his pet. Good luck.

Try going for an off-tank role. These are much less set in stone than MT roles, being someone that meshes well with a guild will generally guarantee you are able to get this role if you want it. This will allow you to split time between tanking and dps, so you don’t get burned out on one role, and having a dps gear set means you won’t necessarily have to look at the tier sets you dislike. Druid is also an option for this role, and though I have no personal experience with it, I hear cat dps is one of the more active rotations.

Outside of my statements above, I feel you are being too narrow minded about endgame. Healers might be less necessary as the rest of the raid gets geared, but it allows them to do more things during fights. Not all dps have a one button rotation. Guilds can break apart, or drama could cause the loss of a main tank, in either case there is a new position for MT available.

If all of the above fails, then it might just be the case that WoW is not for you.

Maybe. I’ve considered hunters in the past, I played one to lvl 16 and it was pretty neat (the ability to switch between melee and ranged was something that should never have been removed from retail as it adds an extra layer of depth to the class). I tried mage and I know they have cc’s to make use of and buffs (however there’s still the frostbolt spam issue). Both have good tier sets as well.

I’ll give either class a try again, and hopefully I’ll stick with one. If not, maybe the game just isn’t for me anymore.

To be fair, there is a melee hunter spec (Survival) in Retail now, and respeccing is a whole lot eaiser there than it is in Classic.

Have you considered just going away??? Wow Classic is clearly just not your game, and that’s fine. We have plenty of people who enjoy it for what it is.

That being said basically every assumption you are making is wrong.

Guilds have to recruit and maintain 8 tank spots for Naxx. Early on most of those tanks will be DPS off-tanks, but seriously if you level a warrior, you will have no issues finding a raid spot.

Not being invited as a DPS? Unless your a balance druid, every class/spec has their place. Even then many guilds will still take oomkins. You just have to work harder to earn your keep.

Just spam 1 button? Go play a hunter, or a feral druid, they have complicated DPS rotations.

Healers just standing around??? Ya that never happens even when things are on farm. That’s when one of your healers is going to DPS to make the runs go faster.

Transmog? Ya never gonna happen, if that a big deal to you I suggest you go play BFA… and seriously you dont like warrior tier sets??? I mean sure the tier 2 helm is a fair argument lol. But then look at tier 3, that set is amazing! Same with tier 1! Also… uhmmm did someone say Thunderfury!

Most of these scenarios your scared of will never happen unless your in a hard-core progression guild…

Here’s a rule of thumb. If you really enjoy the class you’re playing, it’ll show. You’ll be good at it because you WANT to be good at it. And that gets you group invites.

This is one of the less than obvious parts of “you think you do but you don’t”

This is a very difficult part of the leveling wall everyone must climb. Some realize it while they level others once they hit that destination level.

Acknowledging the reality of it helps push through it.
