Returning player here. Never played Shadowlands. I briefly tried the campaign on an alt earlier this year when I came back for Dragonflight, but tapped out. I’d like to try to grind it for transmogs, but I’m completely lost with what I’m doing.
I went back on my main (who has never done SL) and was presented with two options. Threads of Fate or regular campaign. To be clear, I have not finished SL campaign on any alt, so getting the tokens is not an option for me. I have no clue what’s going to net me renown faster. This is REALLY confusing and even asking players seems to net totally different answers at every turn. All the video guides are outdated or for people who finished the campaign, too.

According to the support article, threads of fate is no longer available unless your character had already chosen it before the removal in 10.0. Just to confirm, on a character that’s never touched shadowlands it’s giving you the actual option of choosing to do it?
As far as your actual question, threads of fate was designed to be a renown catch up mechanic for alts. If it’s giving you the option, then that would be the way to go if your only goal is renown.
It was giving me the option, but I logged out because I didn’t know what to pick. When I logged back in, it auto threw me into Shadowlands campaign with the promise I could do Threads of Fate later. Which I’ve now found out that wasn’t… true. Very frustrated by this entire process and confusion. Shadowlands campaign is so slow that the last time I attempted to get through it, I quit the game back in February.
Blizz needs to figure something out because this kind of ‘hey you can do this, no wait actually you can’t’ quest offer that suddenly disappears without prompting makes this whole situation worse.
