Back in I think BFA when dps DK was at its worst in S1 I wrote “I should have a hard time choosing which to play, Frost or Unholy because both perform well and both are fun.”
Here we are. Frost and Unholy are both straight crack addictive to play. Very well done. Some small polish needed here and there for both (my thread about DND cleave OP is under Loldead) but for now I want to focus on how fun both are.
In Unholy I do actually feel like a disease spreading necromancer. The rotation is smoother, and the visuals are great. The smoother rotation makes the spec much more fun to play.
Frost is going to get more focus, because it’s come a lot farther than Unholy development wise. Don’t get confused dear reader I’ll still be spending probably 51% of my time on dk playing Unholy. However.
The changes to Frost DK are stunningly good. DW and 2h both feel amazing to play, 2h feels like Wrath Blood DK (pre tank commitment) big meaty hits, ignores armor, some of the best cleave in the game and still has DK ‘flavor.’
DW is also a lot of fun, it’s fast furious and very very consistent.
Both specs and all three variations are addictive as hell. Very well done devs.

UH actually feels really good for the first time in a long time. Just like OP said, a few minor tweaks would make it a dream, but it is by a wide margin the best it has been in a very long time.

I am having a blast playing both in casual random BGs. Can’t wait to experiment with Hero Talents in a few weeks. Blizzard really cooked with the DK changes. A+ from me.

Agreed. My innitial reaction after putting reps in on all 3 specs, is that Blood, Frost, and Unholy are all in arguably the best place they’ve been since their Legion rework. This is a new golden age for DK, if I’m being honest. The balance of button punch and CD loading is in a healthy place for the first time in ages.
Blood actually getting to run consumption and bonestorm outside of damage oriented leveling builds is incredibly amazing.
I will say though, I doubt Frost and Blood will go without nerfs, both feel obscene right now.

Ssshhh, don’t speak it into existence.
They have been so fun on the beta. Deathbringer is imo the best hero spec they made.

I have to agree. I usually man either a DK, DH or Lock. I always go back to DK but find them strange to play. Frost was smooth but weak and Unholy was like playing a piano but no music comes out. Now they both feel butter smooth and not awkward at all. I will be manning a DK as my main this time around spending a lot time in the Delves. I hope these Delves match the hype. Lets hope the nerf stick that’s sure to come hits us lightly this time.

Agree on Deathbringer. People are way too hyped about Rider, but honestly, it’s a Timmy spec, all fluff, no substance. Deathbringer and San’layn the real deal.

NERF DK! NERF DK! NERF DK!
Heh. I’m just joking, fellas. I’m glad for you guys; good for you.
Now, can you just pass some of that good luck over this way to us paladins?
Frost DK is one of the only specs in the game that has viable builds for multiple weapon types. I honestly think I’ll find myself switching between frost and unholy playstyles very frequently.
