Wouldn’t the fire melt the ice and result in a Puddle Mage?
Trying to hit a post quota?
I prefer Air Conditioning Mage, myself.
Not really, this is my first thread of the day lol
You’ve never heard of freezer burn, before?
It’s so cold…its HOT

They actually removed Frostfire bolt because of that in Legion lol
Something something “magic”
I just call them katy perry mages
They’re yes, then they’re no?
lmao.
You see, we look at it as a challenge. Fire so hot it cannot be extinguished. Ice so cold it cannot be melted.
I leave my opponents frozen solid while they continue burning under all that ice.
… And I still wish my fire was blue to fit the theme.
“What is born of fire can never be extinguished” - Magic fire just hits different
I wonder why combining magic isn’t more common.
We’ve got Frostfire mages, and Disc Priests using both light and shadow, but that’s really about it.
Apparently Kul Tiran Druids mix Life and Death Magic.
Forgot about them a bit, yeah they’re pretty unique as well.
It’s actually consistent with the laws of physics. It’s possible for heat to flow from the ice to the fire causing the ice to freeze more and the fire to get hotter…the likelihood is just astronomically low…so it can be explained by mages using their sorcery to manipulate the configuration of particles to reverse the heat transfer we normally expect…but we are already in the world of magic so I’m not sure it would even matter.
I’ve always viewed the elemental magic that Mages use as being arcane magic emulating the elements, therefore theoretically things could be done with those effects that would otherwise be difficult or even impossible to do naturally.
One could also speculate that the two major components of Frostfire Bolt aren’t actually interacting with each other and are structurally separated until the point of impact. Shaman’s Elemental Blast aesthetically looks like it works that way.
On a somewhat unrelated note, I find explanations like this far more satisfying than just going ‘it’s magic, lol.’ Actually taking time to time explain why your magic works like it does is far more interesting than expecting everyone to take it at face value just because it’s a concept largely divorced from reality. I’ve always hated the ‘it’s magic’ excuse. I find it lazy and dismissive in most cases.
Frostfire makes more sense than just frost when you think about it.
“Cold” doesn’t exist, it’s just what we call it when there isn’t any heat. So a Frostfire mage takes the heat from one place, making it cold, and moves it to another, making it hot.
Meanwhile a frost mage takes the heat from a place to make it cold, and the heat just goes … nowhere?
The only thing stupider than Frostfire would be Firefrost. Or Peaceloks. Peaceloks would be pretty stupid.
It goes into a Fire Mage.
I’m speaking it into canon now: Mages exist in symbiotically connected pairs.
Plusle and Minon.
