While complaining about a lack of crits from Frostfire bolt to a buddy, I realized something… “Where’s my Pyrotechnics buff?”
After some playing around spamming Frostfire Bolt and Fireball at dummies, I can confirm that Frostfire does not proc the Pyrotechnics talent. It looks like the game considers Frostfire bolt to be a Frostbolt. Which is fun because Frostbolt actually applies the Frostfire DoT (and Ignite?). What isn’t explained by the weird Frostbolt interactions is Frostfire also seems to not proc the talent Overflowing Energy from the base Mage talents either…
Edit: After speccing out of Pyrotechnics, Overflowing Energy now DOES effect Frostfire Bolt… wtf?
I’ve noticed this with the Rondurmancy talent for Sunfury too. But the fix is only temporary and it breaks again.
It seems to be a much larger issue affecting many of the new hero talents and how they interact with other talents. Probably just a ton of garbled code, it always happens when they introduce new skills or talents. I wouldn’t be surprised if most of them don’t work with mastery either, specially with mastery that adds a conditional damage bonus like Arcane’s.
Frostfire bolt is just omega bugged. They made separate spells for frost and fire and keep trying to make them fit their respective effects (fireball has faster speed, snapshots dmg on cast, frostbolt calculates dmg on hit).
And instead they broke like all the effects that rely on the filler spell. It also doesnt proc effects (like trinkets) wow!
Frostfire empowerment is consumed on both cast and hit, and it only has its effect of increased dmg and cleave if you use it with two stacks.
