I just crossed paths with someone that has this Frostbrood Proto-Wyrm mount, I now see it in the Mounts tab, and cannot for the life of me figure out how to actually acquire it. The internet has failed me.
Since people already seem have it, does anyone have any idea?
I just logged in and it showed I had an unclaimed gift. Opened it thinking it was a pet but it was a mount. Wonder if you need to play WotLK prepatch to get it? Not sure how else I would have obtained it.
Dang. Scuttlebutt is that you need to drag a DK through the starting zone to get it. I may actually have to download classic to get this mount. Then promptly uninstall it cause classic is garbage.
Did you level a DK through the starting zone? That is the only thing I haven’t done yet on pre-patch
The pre-patch for Wrath of the Lich King Classic is now live, and with it, players can play as the Death Knight Hero Class before making their way into the frozen lands of Northrend to confront the Lich King. Players who play through the complete Death Knight starting experience* in Wrath of the Lich King Classic will earn the Frostbrood Proto-Wyrm** to carry them through their adventures in Shadowlands and beyond into the upcoming Dragonflight expansion.
*Requires completion of the quest “Where Kings Walk” on Alliance characters or “Warchief’s Blessing” on Horde characters.
**Mount not available in World of Warcraft® Classic titles.
I’m typing from my level 70 and my retail account doesnt have the mount ;(
I completed the “Warchief’s Blessing” quest yesterday on this toon, and it still is not showing up on my retail version.
Check your mount filters if that don’t work might need a reset of the UI but most the time a filter was or wasn’t checked.
There has been a big splash announcement about how to get it right on the front page of the Battlenet launcher for like the last week. It’s currently tucked behind the Xy’mox charity ad now.
And yes you just log into classic roll a DK run it through the starter quests until you complete the step where you talk to Varian/Thrall and they tell the populous you’re cool. Log into your retail account and you should have a present to unwrap in the mount tab.
Thank you, I think checking/unchecking filters may have done the trick for me. I also logged back in and got to level 60 on this DK (didn’t know if that might trigger it), and then logged back into a retail character and found the gift box up above my favorites, where I truly was not looking for it.

The real question is : do we need to purchase anything?
I think I remember people needed to purchase BC in order to play it, so I’m guessing it’s the same for Wrath?
You don’t need to purchase anything besides a subscription to access WotLK classic and get this mount.
