Because it made Frost ignore pretty much everything in favor of spamming Frostbolt. The AoE rotation was literally Frostbolt, Blizzard and Frozen Orb.
With current Frost design, it would conflict way too much with the rest of the kit or it would force us to hold on casting other stuff until the end of Icy Veins until we get Death’s Chill stacks high enough to justify unloading everything else, adding giga ramping again and I really don’t want to deal with ramping anymore.

Thank you for the reply, but, that doesn’t sound terrible to me. Before the Mage talent rework while I leveled in DragonFlight I spec’d a Frostbolt build that was slinging multiple bolts. With Icelance, Flurry, IV, & Frozen Orb it was quite fun. When I was doing the Sabean/Wrathion rep grind I could easily pull & solo 2-3 elites at a time in crappy quest gear. Could do Open World questing & elites too. Felt good.
It was when I geared up & respec’d to do Mythics is when the fun fell off. I practiced and got the AoE rotation down on the target dummies where I could keep the rotation & CD’s going non-stop. But when I hit the Dungeons is where the fun stopped. Stuffed either died too fast or the tanks moved the packs out of my AoE and tanked my dps. Not fun. Felt bad. I then tried Arcane & Fire, which I did not do as well as Frost. Felt Bad.
I have friends who still play the game & can group with them. Which I did for some Mythics in season 1. But no matter what I did I ended up feeling like a carry. I was never a carry when I played WoW before. So that felt bad too. I unsubscribed.
Recently resubscribed and played Remix a few days. Remix is silly easy and got boring pretty quick. Plus not any Mogs I really want from Pandaria. Been thinking about doing the Zaralek Caverns quests for the Endowed set for a transmog. But haven’t as of yet. Or even set my talents. I really want to play. Always loved the game. I really like all the QoL improvements, the improved graphics. Love the Dragon riding & the story of the expansion. The first part of DF was quite fun.
Again, thanks for the reply.
Did you get that I didn’t mention Ice Lance though? You literally ignored all Fingers of Frost procs in Shadowlands. It’s also in direct conflict with all other abilities like Glacial Spike, Comet Storm and Ray of Frost.
I’m all for more build diversity and wouldn’t even mind if there was another, easier build even though I do love Glacial Spike, but Frostbolt spam really shouldn’t be it. It not only pushes other abilities out of the rotation, it does so by adding ramp to it, meaning we’ll need to build up enough stacks of Death’s Chill, meaning no mobility because you will never want to not be casting Frostbolt. This is what Deathborne used to be in Shadowlands and it got old really quickly.

I did. But when I look at the talents & the Hero talents with Frostfire Bolt Hero talents and the bolt empowerment talents in Frost it seems to me Blizzard maybe thinking that will be the more Bolt centric (Deathborne?) playstyle for Frost (not sure how it would work with Fire atm). I’m curious about that because it seems strange to me to make a Hero tree for a filler spell. I’m thinking this because when I played the Meta in season one using the Bolt was not priority and Frostfire Bolt seems to be more priority and thus a different playstyle where as Spellslinger seems to go with the current Meta. So to me hopefully it will open up a newer different simpler playstyle. One I might find more fun and appropriate for my Boomer skill set.
Fire’s goal is to cast as little of their filler as possible but the empowered one is still very good. Frost needs to cast their filler because it enables other damage via procs.
Like I said, I’m ok with there being other and easier builds but the problem is that Death’s Chill and other Frostbolt talents have the potential to undermine all builds as the spec tree currently stands.
Had to review the TWW talents & think about it again. I claim no expertise and definitely defer to you. I’m just hoping for a simpler alternate build/playstyle that does not have to be cutting edge Meta but competitive enough I can do world content, have fun, & not feel like a carry when doing Mythics with friends. Hopefully Blizz can do what would satisfy players like you & ones like me. Especially since that is part of their stated goals for the next Xpac. I really appreciate you taking the time to help & discuss this with me.
edit:
Ravenfell - Awesome transmog btw! Looks great on your UD.
This part is only true to a small degree, with GS procing BF(40% set bonus) and FoF(Talent), Flurry now on a CD reset by BF I found myself barely ever having to cast my filler spell, and when I had to with no procs or enough Icicles it never felt good to press Frostbolt. One of the main reasons I switched back to Classic, and why I loved Deathborne(besides the idea of turning into a Lich, God forbid we have that flavor of fun) even though again, Frostbolt never felt good to press.
I’m with Tesha on this. We need more than just Ice Lance spam, we’ve had that the last four expansions not counting BFA(felt good even though they ruined what shatter could have been), or whatever copy-paste Blue Fire Mage we have now.
And it wouldn’t hurt to play someone else’s playstyle for a little bit, we’ve been forced to play other peoples for far too long.
It is true. We were talking about Frostfire Bolt for Fire vs Frost and Fire casts Fireball way less than Frost does Frostbolt for reasons I mentioned.
We don’t press Fingers of Frost nearly as much anymore. Fingers of Frost is literally one of our last priorities.
What this is doing is making us play this playstyle again since it was already there for seasons 3 and 4 of Shadowlands and it was cancer there too after the first few months. As it stands, Death’s Chill will either be useless and never picked or overwhelm the rest of Frost’s kit. I don’t think it works with the current tree at all.
Thanks, this is one of the few transmogs I found that looks decent on Undead.

I would love a different playstyle. Justing trying to silver lining what it is. I don’t like being forced to do all my damage in a cd window.
Even if they gave Fostbolt a 100% flat buff to it’s damage, it’s still beaten out in damage by every other spell you cast and you’re never going to want to push it; just wont feel so bad when you actually have to. Blizzard lately has been pushing Fireball and Frostbolt out of rotation for a long time, it’s time we fight back and get our filler back to feeling great to cast.

I’d go as far to say that not only is frostbolt shatter combo fun, IP and TV made it even better. GS a year later still feels clunky. I think no GS might be a thing in WWI at least for ST. Bring back IP as a choice. People that want to cast slow spells can opt out.
The problem is when combined with Death’s Chill, which incentivizes Frostbolt/Frostfire Bolt spam, so if it deals damage even close to something like Ice Lance, you have no incentive to cast Ice Lance anymore if Frostbolt will keep ramping damage up, hit up to 3 targets and build into launching a Frozen Orb.
Are you talking about Icy Propulsion? That should never be a thing along with Thermal Void again. It’s one or the other if they are going to be choice nodes or you risk going into perma-IV territory again, which isn’t fun.

I agree but they really want us living in our CD window with how much they’re attaching to it. We’ve got WE, ramping frostbolt damage, cleave if you spec for it on top of the haste. It’s almost like they forgot everyone hated doing all their damage in a maintenance buff.
I’d rather our cooldowns be powerful than watering them down by giving us insane uptime, which is what happened to Combustion. Moving away from perma-IV was one of the best things that happened to Frost post 10.1.5 rework and I’m still not the biggest fan of Thermal Void extending it close to one minute.

We can agree to disagree. Question though. Did they ever revert the icicle damage nerf from when they buffed gs?
