I know I could SIM myself but I honestly hated having to do it in Legion for every piece of gear I got as arcane so I thought I’d go right to the horses mouths as it were.
I have crit on almost every piece of gear but still can’t get closer to the crit cap than 30%. I can’t get enough haste to make more than 0.1-0.2 second difference in casting speed.
I usually sit around 27-28% crit, 14-15% haste (sometimes as low as 12%), and 16-17% mastery. Vers is moot at 1-2%.
Looking at the gear in the new raid, if I’m to take an upgrade, I’m gonna take a hit to crit or haste. Just wondering what y’all are doing with your stats and where you’re sitting with crit/haste/mastery …
If you arent doing anything above LFR difficulty and maybe normal than I suppose it really doesnt matter if you sim yourself or not and just equip the highest item level pieces lmao. oh, and to answer your question what am i doing for gear? (simming it all)
There’s also the primary stats. An ilvl upgrade will always have more primary stat. In mage case is int. Primary stats is basically flat damage increase. So, you’ll need to weigh primary stats vs the type of secondary stats too.
The most accurate answer you’re gonna get is to sim yourself.
If you’re unwilling to do that, then just go by ilvl. What you’re doing with stacking a particular stat is a very bad idea as frost mostly wants a balanced stat ratio.
Thanks for the feedback but I was hoping to avoid another expac of simming myself every time I get a damnable upgrade as a mage.
I’m using Deadly Navigation enchant on my weapon to try and fill in the gaps in crit but I have accepted that it’ll be a while before we get back to the 33.34% sweet spot.
What I do find is haste is confusing me. When i started playing with frost in Legion, we had a crap load of haste. Now the difference between 10% haste and 15% haste is a 0.1-0.2 sec decrease in cast time.
What sim program is best given all the nuances to the gear now? I used to use Ask Mr.Robot but I don’t think that was ever the go-to.
It’s pretty quick to sim yourself these days. Download the simcraft addon and just use raidbots top gear simmer. Select the new gear and in just a little bit you have your results.
It’s really hard to say what is and isn’t an upgrade by just looking at it. I’ll admit i was a pretty big goof at the start of the x-pack and did nothing but grab every bit of crit gear i could. Ended up having someone slap me and sim for me and work on my stats, ended up improving things a lot.
Currently even not being at shatter cap, my stat weights are actually a lot closer than I thought they would be (crit is still top ofc).
I guess if anything, sim stat weights with raidbots and update pawn to show you upgrades, but it isn’t always super reliable
Simcraft is the add-on and Raidbots Top Gear Simmer is what , a website?
Frack this is NOT what I want to do … I hated HATED having to do this for every damned piece of gear I got in Legion. I thought going with a spec that had a more clear path to stat priority that I wouldn’t have to do this for another damned expac.
If you really want the top DPS, this is what we have had to do forever as any DPS
It’s very quick, I promise. You just copy paste from the addon to the website, click 2 buttons and can alt-tab away until your results pop up.
Or, copy paste from addon to stat weights and then into pawn and just use that to hover gear and determine quicker if it’s an upgrade. I personally don’t like having to update my stat weights all the time though shrug
If you’re really 100% against simming, then you won’t get as much out of your character as you would like. It’s all about how much effort you want to put in and what results you want to see. If you aren’t being super serious about raiding, then you can just follow a basic stat priority I guess, but it’s all up to you.
I read what you said 3 times and it makes no sense to me … I think I’d have to see the add-on and site first to understand the process.
Is there any easier site to use? Ask Mr. Robot was user friendly … that’s why I used it lol.
Disclaimer: I am tech stupid
As for my performance, I want to do my best … especially now that I’m in a new guild. Trying to “earn my keep” and all that. At the end of the day, no one’s complaining about my performance so maybe I’ll just go with the flow and worry about a problem when I have to.
UPDATE: AH! Icy Veins has a “how to sim yourself” using just the things you mentioned.
The trick with Frost is that you don’t want to go full on crit at the expense of everything else, just to cap. That’s where the simming comes in. Right now I’m around 26.5% and Haste is roughly equal in value, at my gear level.
The differences are small, so don’t overstress it.
Thanks for the feedback all. I bit the bullet and learned how to sim. Wasn’t that bad with the help of some guildies.
Actually quite pleased cause I simmed higher in Frost than I did Fire.
I still have a couple of things to sim … not sure how a 385 Azerite piece with Packed Ice and Twisted Child of Rezan compares to a 370 piece with Flash Freeze and packed Ice … and I wanna see how a 370 Seabreeze sims to the wand and offhand I have on now but otherwise I’m pretty ok.
