Frost Mages in Midnight Alpha: Suggestions

Suggestions (Addressing Core Frost Mechanics)

  • Fingers of Frost - Talent, Passive
    Frostbolt has a 15% chance to grant a charge of Fingers of Frost. Fingers of Frost causes your next Ice Lance to trigger its maximum Shatter damage without consuming any Freezing stacks. Maximum 1 charge.
    (More intuitive to use because it doesn’t first require the “appropriate minimum amount of freezing stacks” to first be in place for maximum effectiveness.)

  • NEW - Hand of Frost - Talent, Passive
    Consuming Fingers of Frost causes your next damaging Frost ability other than Ice Lance to also Shatter [Ice Lance Number of Shatter Stacks] stacks of Freezing the first time it hits each target.
    (Eliminates “Ice Lance Spam” outside of high mobility scenarios, gives players flexibility in rotational expression, works with single target or AoE, plays into Apex (more on that later). Personally, I’d position this just below Fingers of Frost as a mandatory talent)

  • Comet Storm - Talent, Passive
    Every 15 stacks you Shatter with Ice Lance transform its next cast into Comet Storm. Comet Storm calls down a series of 7 icy comets on and around the target, each of which deal X Frost damage within 8 yards on impact.
    (Larger radius makes it more usable, alternate trigger conditions unbind it from Ray of Frost. 15 Stacks is a suggestion, but could change to be more or less depending on the desirable frequency of the spell and balance with the Frostfire tree.)

  • NEW - Endothermic Transference - Talent, Passive
    Slain enemies generate 1 stack of Endothermic Transference on you for every stack of Freezing they had at the moment of their death. Endothermic Transference causes your next Freezing ability to apply an additional number of Freezing stacks equal to the number of Endothermic Transference stacks you have. Max 20 stacks.
    (Solves the problem of Frost mages constantly resetting their “buildup” each time a foe dies.)

  • Master Lancer - Talent, Passive
    Ice Lance generates 1 Icicle towards Glacial Spike whenever it Shatters at least 4 Freezing Stacks, and Glacial Spike can now stack up to 2 times.
    (Further moves away from “Spam Ice Lance” builds by redesigning Master Lancer. This version also makes it more synergistic with other talents and abilities)

  • Hands of Frost - Apex Talent, Passive (Renamed)
    Consuming Fingers of Frost now generates 2 stacks of Hand of Frost, and your first use of Hand of Frost reapplies its Shattered stacks of Freezing.
    (Augments the versatility and flexability introduced with the suggested “Hand of Frost” talent mentioned above.)

  • Hands of Frost (2) - Apex+ Talent, Passive (Renamed)
    For every stack of Freezing you Shatter, you have a [6%/12%] chance to pelt the target with Frost Shards, dealing [400% of Spell Power] damage and applying 2 stacks of Freezing.
    (Maintains a lot of the current Apex Talent design identity, subject to balancing.)

  • Hands of Frost (3) - Apex++ Talent, Passive (Renamed)
    Ray of Frost gains 1 additional charge and now Shatters stacks of Freezing instead of applying them. Your chance to pelt the target with Frost Shards also increases to 100% while channeling Ray of Frost.
    (Similar to the current Apex Talent design, but better leverages the mechanical associated with these suggestions.)
