Frost Mage Rotation SS

I was wondering if someone could dumbly explain to me the new Frost mage SS rotation since the patch. I recently returned to the game and am I finding it difficult to understand fully the icy veins or wowhesd guides.

When I used to play. It was spend FoF procs on ice lance. Throw orb out there and try to shatter glacial spike with flurry then follow up with 2 ice Lance’s.

Anyways if anyone could somehow explain the roto now so I can get it through my thick skull, id appreciate it.

I’ll probably get yelled at for the suggestion, but try…

The st you see recommended on those guides atm is only for full raid talents. Frost still plays like this in m+ or once you do any non-st raid boss essentially. (and can take a bit of a hit to dps to not do the frostbolt stuff in ST).

AOE should be accurate on guides but ST for the more standard rotation would be:

  1. Comet Storm (after flurry, not in icy veins)
  2. Flurry, after frostbolt or glacial spike
  3. Orb
  4. Ray of Frost, with winters chill
  5. Shifting Power if no flurry charges
  6. Glacial Spike, if you have a flurry charge/winters chill (if you can shatter it basically)
  7. Ice Lance with FoF/winters chill
  8. Frostbolt

Thats got some cds in it, your core rotation is just:

  1. Flurry, after frostbolt or glacial spike
  2. Orb
  3. Glacial Spike, if you have a flurry charge/winters chill (if you can shatter it basically)
  4. Ice Lance with FoF/winters chill
  5. Frostbolt

Pretty simple if you’re familiar with flurry/winters chill already.

I thought we didn’t use Comet Storm or Ray in ST and prioritized frost bolt/ GS → flurry of FOF.
Or am I completely off base?

The best ST talent tree for the frostbolt playstyle doesnt have ray or comet storm talented, the more standard frost/DF playstyle which I’m recommending the prio for here does have comet storm talented always.

If we do talent them, we want to use them in ST, generally just not in icy veins.

GS → flurry is higher prio than FoF, but frostbolt is only that way in the full raid build which would require learning a different st rotation that can just be confusing as to when you’re supposed to do it.

Would you say the only time you would have to use frostbolt over FOF would be the few raid fights that don’t spawn adds? I’m trying to figure out what raid fights I should be using CS and prioritizing FOF over frostbolt.
