I know I’m not max lvl yet but after doing a bg at 77, I feel our damage is really bad. Compared to other classes i did at this point, it doesn’t compare at all. How well are frost mages doing at 80 once geared for pvp? Would I be better off going to Spirest or Lock?
Yes frost mage is more than viable end game PvP.
In fact for most of this season they have been actually god tier for PvP, they did catch a nerf in the most recent balance patch. Mostly to the burst window inside icy veins. But it’s still more than viable even post nerfs, still super strong spec to play.

While Frost may be really strong (probably the strongest caster), there’s an actual skill threshold that jokingly feels like “the rogue of the casters” for me. You need a lot of awareness (both spatial and with what others are doing) and impecable timing with your kit.
Well, the good thing is that it’s just a matter of practice. I found it easier than Rogue, at least in S1, but takes a little bit. And the reward for doing it well is good.

Frostfire Frost is the best mage pvp spec at the moment as far as I’m concerned.
Frost is very strong in PvP, but don’t expect to faceroll everything
Mage is trickier to pick up than most classes, and you can absolutely get blown up if you misplay
