I don’t quite understand why frost is getting any type of nerf. Looking at the statistics for mythics+ frost is in the middle or below for overall damage. Since this is the case why reduce damage? I just don’t understand. The upcoming nerf will be a 2% to 3% overall damage reduction or more depending on spell profile. I ask you kindly please do not nerf frost any further, it feels like its currently in a good spot.

That’s because 90% of the good Mages are playing Fire.
Fire is being nerfed, if they don’t nerf Frost too then all the Fire Mages will just roll Frost and we will still have God comp just with 1 change.
That’s not damage, that’s representation (i.e. popularity). M+ ranking & statistics are heavily skewed by most people playing their top spec even if it’s only 1-2% better than their other specs (or brings some other advantage).
As frost I’ve had no trouble topping DPS meters by a noticeable margin in most of my runs compared to similar geared/IO players of other classes. I think frost will continue to be a solid DPS spec even after next week’s nerfs.
I don’t care what people play at end game content now. Frost is fine. I doubt anyone would reject me just because I am frost from mythic raids or m+ content especially when it is my key.
Ah yes, that old schtick. Frost needs to be nerfed because not enough players are playing it at high level. Didn’t they try something like that in Legion (shortly followed by “the remaining players are playing Frost wrong which is why your damage is low”)? What ever happened to that CM? Sacked you say?
Those are called bad players then. Frost is not even close to Fire in terms of damage, and it is still below many other classes/specs, though most of those are seeing nerfs.
The whole is silly though, because these nerfs are the reaction to a very very small percentage of players doing very high keys in organised groups. If Blizzard wasn’t desperately scrambling to still keep MDI a thing, we’d see changes to these classes that don’t affect the 99.999% of players such as target caps and diminishing returns.

Thats not a shtick. Thats just a fact. If the best players are nor playing a spec the spec’s stats might not reflect its full potential.

Retribution paladins have a scaling issue with their damage. They need a buff to be competitive.
What statistics are showing this?
How are you determining that? Exactly what is the DPS gap between frost and fire in M+?
I would genuinely love to know.
i mean looking at war logs overall shows fire and augmentation very high.
Looking at each boss individually and top performing dps.
Almost every boss is swarming with demo and UHDK.
So you know. we clearly needs to slap fire and frost also because our 5 minutes of beating the top performing specs of the entire expansion is over…
I only switched backed to my mage because they screwed over elemental anyways. Back to my backup’s backup? Oh wait i don’t have one of those???

At a guess (because am lazy and a lot of rio/wcl m+ don’t show specific dps) about 10-15%. Mythic Zaqali is probably a pretty decent representation of what you’d see in m+ with a mix of boss and add damage, though obviously fort weeks and more aoe tends to happen in m+. Fire sits about 10% above Frost there.
With an organised group, in high keys Fire will be quite a lot ahead. That’s not saying Frost can’t do some nice damage, but realistically at the same skill/gear level it will be barely above mid-pack when compared to shaman, druid, rogue, spriest and furry warriors.
For whatever reason, Blizzard has it in its head that Frost is way ahead of other specs, when it’s potentially not even top 10. This has pretty much been how Blizz has treated Frost for the last 4 expansions though - can’t have it compete with Fire or Arcane, and certainly can’t have it compete with classes that use 1/2 the key bindings.
Honestly, Frost was good for what, 6 weeks before being pushed back under that mid point? It’s no wonder so many Mages are fed up. If this is how they’re going to treat us, then I’ll go to Rog or play an augvoker next tier.
