Frost Mage in PvP

One word… Deep Freeze </3

Why Blizzard needs to bring back Deep Freeze to make frost great again

Most mages can agree frost hasnt been fun to play for a while in pvp.lets be honest. im not here to say mages are bad in any form but i just want to see the spec i love finally get looked at before upcoming patch.

Problems we would like to see looked at:

(Having No Stun): Every caster in Shadowlands currently has multiple utility including stuns: “Lightening Lasso, Cap totem, Hex, Shear for shaman. “Root beam, Cyclone, bash, disorient” for Moonkin. “Psychic horror, Fear, Silence” for Shadow priest. “Fear, Howl of Terror, Shadowfury, cs” for Warlock” ect. Frost being the only mage spec with access to deep freeze would please so many of us :’)

(Damage)- damage is subpar, only decent damage you get is from frozen orb/ice lance during it & you have to cast frostbolt which does very little damage just to get procs that do mediocre damage compared to if you were to play fire which is much stronger in every way.

(No Dragon’s Breath)- Fire has the luxury of having a disorient to Solo secure polymorphs without help of teammates, this alone makes it unique utility only available to fire mages & makes the spec fluid to play while frost has nothing but slows (which fire already has (Frostbolt & Mirror images) Deep Freeze would fix this!

(Design feels empty): Frost gameplay is to essentially tickle enemies & slow them, casting frostbolt enough to gather max Icicle: Mastery procs just to see an enemy’s health not move an inch when you finally use them makes me so sad playing the spec :frowning:

(Frost has no Solo 1v1 Capability): I know Arenas/Battlegrounds are a team based game but if you look at class design frost loses to every class (maybe except warrior) due to damage being very low & hybrids can live/outheal it in a 1v1 scenario, it seems that even players who are noticeably new can deal with a frost mage infinitely easier than fire, it doesnt feel right.

I dont know what else to say i typed this up on my break but I LOVE MAGE & i love world of warcraft please rework frost blizzard !! <3

If mages had a stun rogues would never be picked at gym class

Maybe you’re onto something here

They were paired with rogues even when they did have a stun! nothing honestly would change but except make the spec way more viable than it already is without getting carried by fotm specs i feel like

You’ll get nothing and you’ll like it you filthy hufflepuff wizard

I dont want to read the post but you better give up something to get that damn deep freeze.

why should we give something up for something that was removed from us even tho it was like one of the most notorious mage spells for our spec that it revolved around lol

Fire has DB Poly. Deep Poly would be the same thing but not an aoe cc, so a worse version.

because when it was removed it was replaced with other mechanics to make up for the gap removing it created.

I’m all for giving (frost)mage back deep, but shimmer (it’s replacement) needs to go.

Make it a talent on the same tier as shimmer
I hate shimmer too but they will never remove it cuz of pve.

id be fine w that :’)

Deep freeze was a damage tool to guarantee crits while target was locked down unlike with roots that break so easily and only been able to land 1 crit off em. If anything, the icelance procs act more like a replacement by making it a guaranteed crit. Deep freeze is what made frost so dominant in the past, so a return would make fire obsolete.

Fingers of frost (ice lance procs) were implemented at the same time as Deep freeze, and were consumed by deep freeze / any frost directed at a target, so, they can’t be a replacement. They coexisted.

Later on they took frostbolt off of fingers of frost’s mechanic, and made it so just deep & lance would spend charges iirc.

Deep was a versatile tool that could be used for sheep, or offensively to assist in doing damage. (as well as a burst cd in pve vs stun-immune boss mobs.) I don’t recall stating otherwise, but yea. It’s worth pointing out deeps offensive capacity before WoD. (As in WoD, they removed deeps capacity to function as a damage tool.)

I see no downside.

mage kit is overloaded enough as is. lets leave deep freeze in the grave

That’s rich coming from a warrior lmao

frost is so 1 dimensional its kind of sad. you just sit there pressing frostbolt praying for procs, live or die by your teammates setup. my classic mage designed 15 years ago is more enjoyable

He isn’t wrong though
