Frost is better now
I wouldnât know canât load in.
Itâs still going to lag fire by a few points.
Frost is better than it was with the buffs applied to it. Is Frost better than Fire? I very much doubt that. You have to keep in mind that the top tier mages, at least when it comes to raiding, are still playing as fire and have really learned how best to optimize it.
Yes it is.
Frost will never be better than Fire as long as the game continues to favor burst it will never be better. But it is âcoolerâ.
True story (I was there!): During beta, fire was perceived as bottom DPS. It only received a 5% buff during beta and even then it wasnât considered good. Miraculously after frost got nerfed, people started realizing fire wasnât bad and suddenly itâs the best mage DPS spec very late into beta.
Just have to wait and see. Itâll probably pop off once a bored streamer shows itâs really good.
and mobility
and higher sustained damage
and scaling
and uncapped AOE
and single target priority that can spin into AOE w/ ignite.
If you expect the solution to come from a random bored streamer, man we are screwed. No, thereâs nothing to figure out, the spec hasnât changed and the covenants, soulbinds and legendaries wonât change much how it works because none of the offer any synergy with Frost.
In fact these random streamers were the ones that made us think Frost Mages would be in S tier. Such irony.
We got a blanket increase (even less than what was promised, from what Iâve read but I have not tested how much yet).
Thatâs the best weâll get. Iâll take it. Iâll take anything. And Iâm not paying a cent more for this game.
Aura was changed from -19 to -12 not to -10 which is what we thought we were getting.
I donât expect them to solve anything, just predicting they will show the spec performing well and everyone jumping over once that happens.
Also, at least people were doing things with Frost when the devs would make more substantial changes during beta. Nobody even wanted to report things for fire.
Cause it sucks. If it wasnât OP nobody would use it.
It doesnât suck.
Itâs moved me a up a couple spots in the meters tonight. Itâs not making frost OP, just brings us out of dead last. m+ is still probably going to heavily favor fire.
I think this just show the math team lack the person who could replace celestalon. They got a bunch of people that could do math but not the person could make math.
In BFA they made a system with brute force. Making a lot of azerite of abilities because they have a bunch of math people. Their plan was to âlet player pickâ. Obviously that didnât go well.
In SL they are trying to fix âfrost mage good all the timeâ. But what they did was balance using patchwork spreadsheet. But in real encounters there are down time. Frost mage taking a big hit when there are down time. The main bulk of dps came from frostbolt proc. While for fire theyâll still get some fireblast charges and combustion during down time.
Covenants, soulbinds and legendaries synergize great with frost. In optimal scenarios, with 29% crit and 13% haste, I can almost chain icy veins with slick ice and icy propulsion already. This will only get better. In addition frost will unlock the 2nd potency slot this week which will result in another â3-4% dps increase.
To expect anything other than a %age increase (which is the 9% that was stated) 2 months into an expansion is lunacy. If youâre unhappy with frost for any reason other than lack luster dps reroll cause class changes are unlikely till next expansion.
Frost is an hot garbage right now. Just forget about It til late 9.3.
HMMMM
I would like you to go back in time a few years when they King of Burst specâs for Mage was Frost, Circa Cata & MoP. (ignore the existence of Arcane, only weirdoâs play arcane, like Abn, heâs kinda an odd duck)
Legit frost could put down the damage, and it was VERY GOOD.
Although MoP fire was the best designed Fire mage spec ever, so there is that too⌠Skill required, YES PLEASE!
A few years? That was almost a decade ago.
âa few yearsâ aka 9 years ago, thatâs definitely a recent example.
I feel like thereâs a subset of players in the WoW fandom that measure time in expacs and have no idea how long itâs actually been in the real world.
