I am playing mage, have been since BC. I need to get my dps up, i’m raiding and the raid leader is pushing for me to have 100% up-time and at least 10-12 DPS. Right now it’s about 80% and at between 6 and 8. I don’t know what else to do.
I’ve wondered if doing macros to cut out button pushing would help. I’ve never learned macros and reading today, it seems to be way complicated. What I am wanting to do is to make a 1-button for quick rotation stuff. Something like Frost Bolt with Brain Freeze---->Ice Lance.
I also want to do a “pre-fight” prep list to do: Water Elemental—>Icy Veins—>Ice Barrier—>Battle Potion of Intellect—>Target Boss—>Frozen Orb—>Frost Bolt.

Very general questions get very general answers. Once you have a specific question, someone can provide you with a specific answer.
Macros aren’t going to fix your dps problem. They may help you become more efficient but they aren’t going to double your dps.
The important question is: do you know what you’re doing wrong in your rotation? If you don’t know that then macros aren’t going to help you.
An important tool in improving yourself is combat logging. I use an addon called autocombatlogger to auto log only what I want. Then I upload the log file using the warcraftlogs.com client (the client and account are free) and occasionally I analyze it. Wowanalyzer.com is useful in doing that.
If you’re only at 80% uptime when most of the raid has 99%+, macros won’t help you in this regard. I bet the problem would be on how you maintain the rotation while obeying the raid’s mechanics. You could be spending too much time moving and dodging instead of casting. Or because you are not using keybinding so your reactions are slower than others (I do know a lot of clickers actually do really well but keybinding helps). High latency could be an issue also.
I suggest watching videos of capable Frost mages will shed some light on your problems. Frost mage “rotation” is more of a priority list. It’s not static enough to be included in a macro. I would not suggest anyone to do so.
