That’s right now we have to talent into them
…were you really expecting >80 completely new talents?
Okay, so pick them.
No I won’t pick them.
I want to have as close to 3 abilities max as possible!
No but they could have easily kept our current abilities and made simple talents that would be a lot more fun than this by far…
… are you really fine with this amount of lacking creativity? Some people will accept anything I suppose whether it raises the bar or not
you have more than enough points to make a really cool build, yeah it’s weird that they make you pick up stuff you already had but it’s not like you can’t make a cool or good build. i feel like this is being blown way out of proportion. it’s not that bad.
Yes.
You are not “losing them” lol. It is pretty obvious what they are doing bro. It is just like leveling a new toon. You don’t have certain abilities and as you level you unlock them. That is what you are doing.
When it goes live being max level you are going to have like 80+% of the trees done.
The trees are not bad at all. You get to pick what you want as you level. The day DF is out it isn’t like you have zero talents in the tree and you have to earn everything.
I mean when we level a new toon do you get upset you don’t have all the abilities at level 1? No idea why everyone is getting upset over “baseline” when they are still “baseline” lol.
You get to pick what passives you want and what abilities you want. Trees look great honestly. Just kind of sucks that some of the really fun abilities probably wont get picked because min/max.
“losing”
On the flip side of the coin where every talent point counts, I ask. Is it really a good thing that something important like Mind Freeze need to be allocated into the baseline talent tree? Because base on the way that the talent is structured, it is very possible that you’ll encounter players that do not have this ability let alone not know the importance of it.
I, personally, do not mind unlocking abilities as you level. When I answered the Pandaren Shaman, “Yes”, I meant it. I was expecting that we would have a lot of passives that enhance our kit in an interesting way along with old stuff return (Looking at Necrotic Plague), not moving our existing kit into the talent tree.
So sure, the tree itself is not bad at all but it’s really not all that either.
“This ability interrupts the other person’s ability, therefore it doesn’t happen” is something pretty much everyone would pick up on pretty fast, and if not they’ll learn eventually. Let players learn.
If someone is doing something super to the wire requiring minmaxing and whatnot they’ll definitely know about it. That’s not something that pops up early.
It’s good to let players learn things. I was still learning and figuring things out in my third playthrough of Elden Ring, for something recent, among other games. Figuring out tactics and strategies is fun.
You’re not permanently locked into stuff so not realizing how good or useful an ability is at first isn’t a permanent screw up, you’re not locked out of anything.
In Vanilla the deterrent against building “wrong” was because retraining was super expensive. That’s not been a thing for awhile, and going into DF we’ll have loadouts and can otherwise switch talents as needed.
Okay, but something important like Mind Freeze still shouldn’t cost a talent point.
Players learning it or not, it’s still an important ability to use that every damage dealing class should have in various degree.
It’s one extra step that’s not needed. You have an ability. You need to know how to use it allocated or not.
A passive that rewards you for successfully interrupting an ability is more interesting than having yourself need to be allocating on such an important ability.
I’m fine with it costing a talent point aka you having a choice in it or something cause again it’s not 100% mandatory for all encounters.
Fair enough.
Still an important ability though that shouldn't cost a talent point but then again, I use Orb of Regrets every day.
nods I believe the the reasoning is the utility abilities that don’t have much combat utility are what’s base line (for the most part).
Like Path of Frost.
I mean that’s why we still have Raise Ally, right?
Sometimes it is the healer who stands in the fire.
Mind Freeze is a mandatory pick unless you want your build to be slow as a snail. To get to Runic Empowerment / Runic Corruption which finalizes our rune system, you have to pick up Mind Freeze and IBF.
If people dont have Mind Freeze, dont take them… seriously… dont take them. If they dont have that and IBF then you can for certain say they dont have a complete resource system. Frost and Unholy both should be picking up this choice talent.
I think allocating the point for the ability would be good in that it forces people to read what they are picking up. Oh so this interrupts casts, that could be useful. Just a simple thing like making it a point, or having to go to a trainer to learn abilities, can absolutely have a positive impact on player knowledge.
I get what you are saying but you need to think about it. This thought doesn’t hold any water. Even if it was given at lvl 1, that same person may not put it on their bar or ever use it.
I have been playing this game for years like many people. I can tell you that I see people who have played since “vanilla” who still don’t know how to interrupt or dispel.
So you get what I am saying? If it is a talent or free ability who cares. For someone who doesn’t care to interrupt they can now put a point in something to increase damage or give more health. Whatever they want.
If you remember back in WotLK they made a very strong statement about the new tree. In that reason it was received very well by most. There were people who hated it though. The “passives” didn’t add ANY flavor to playing the game. It really wasn’t fun. The trees should have some passives but the talents you choose should pick how the player wants to play the game. It should affect the playstyle.
I think most people just thought we would get like 12 new abilities with tons of old ones which just causes bloat.
I think just wait and see what they come up with. People screaming the world is ending over a preview of talent trees getting mad over “this should be baseline” when it is in the actual class tree lol.
