Devs do not use the api or simcraft to balance specs… that’s a very silly thing to say.
Devs have access to way more information than players do. That’s why they also don’t use WCL to balance specs. It’s 2021 and most players still don’t know how to read data on WCL properly.
Simcraft has NEVER been about comparing specs. It’s about optimizing your gear output. Two completely different things.
Whats “not that far behind” mean in this case, and what has changed? Icecap was simming as a dont even look at this talent to now only being around 500 dps behind BoS.
My stats have barely changed at all but for some reason the sim did. But then again my sims for both bos and Obliteration have hardly changed either.
Not to mention Icecap as a talent works better with DW, a lot better, due to how Frost Strike and Obliterate works with each hit having its own crit chance.
The sims arent accurate at all. When comparing talents, Icecap was around 4050 for me, then when I compared DW to 2h, for some reason the same exact build went up to 4202 as DW, 2h Icecap was at 3900 with a much higher ilvl on my 2h than my DW weapons.
But where did that 200 dps come from without actually changing anything about the gear or talent input for DW? Thats a pretty big jump to come from thin air. Its also a computer doing all the work so it cant be from human error in gameplay… soooooo whats going on there?
I doubt even with the secondary stats are rising and the potential of Icecap has been yet to realize, there is currently no reason to pass on either one of the other two talents as well as resolving the glaring issue with Frost’s Rune/RP Economy.
It’s kind of hard to believe Icecap’s comeback with the departure of the Azerite Traits that synergize extremely well with the talent.
I did a lot of simming my character and I got really weird results depending on what I was testing out. It was either just gear comparison, or talent comparison. 200dps for icecap came out of nowhere just checking the difference between DW icecap and 2h icecap. DW icecap when checking under talent comparison was consistently ~4050dps, went to compare DW Icecap to 2h Icecap DW icecap went up to 4219 or something while 2h Icecap was 3900. Where that damage increase game from I have absolutely no clue. The same gear and talents, no shard bonus, same covenant and everything… around 200dps just showed up.
I think the major change was that the APL was change to make icecap play better. Not 100% sure but I think stuff like unleashed frenzy got polished etc
Blatantly false, sim predictions are liked to devs every beta cycle, and every patch, starting in beta. They don’t use it as gospel but it is taken into account. It was a big part of the September frost nerfs as well.
Sort of funny you overlooked the balance issues that have gone on for years, indicative of basing decisions of balance on sims instead of performance.
They run sims as well; and since you’ve been around for awhile you’d be hard pressed to argue, because beta is far too small to balance anything around. There are also various blue posts that specifically relate to the WoW/D3 teams leaning on players for testing way more than they should.
Lets be honest here, this is the dev team that thinks shards of domination are tier sets… its probably better for them to lean on players because they are out of their minds if they think that.
They just need good players to lean on and not just everyone and anyone. People that can think things through, people who have mechanical skill, people like Rextroy to just try to break the game. Hes still treating live as a beta test breaking stuff like affliction lock killing ~4 people at a time in like 2 seconds max.
The dev team hasnt had that since probably MoP, or WoD to an extent.
Could you post your source? Specifically where they “used it to nerf Frost in September”. Ion has said in past interviews that they do not look at Simc as they have much better tools for gathering data.
Where/when did I do that?
Could you link where you found them saying they run simc? Yes, they have said they collect more data from the first few weeks of live. Obviously, more than they get from beta due to higher number of player engagement.
I’m confused by this. You just said they tune based on simc but now you are saying it’s based off player testing? Do you mean theory crafters?
The problem with Unleashed Frenzy, to me, is that you have to use Frost Strike every ~4 GCDs to maintain it. ~5 if you have haste.
It just lasts way too short compared to something like Molten Core for Demo Locks and it just doesn’t feel great to use FS just to maintain a short term bonus for RP.
Sounds like you have literally no idea what you are doing when simming. Imagine being that bad that you think the people in the DK discord don’t know what they are doing. Link all your rank 1 logs if you know better than everyone else. Link your armory, link your sims, etc. let people look at your ‘data’ and point out everything you are doing wrong. The fact that you are even posting this on the forums instead of discussing it in the DK discord already proves how far gone you are. GL
