So recently started playing this DK again, and I must ask, why do we as Frost DKs need to still use Death and Decay to cleave. It would make more sense, at least to me, to have our cleave tied to Remorseless Winter. Why does this Dev team insist on DnD being part of our cleave mechanic?

You don’t need it at all to cleave, there are numerous options to empower Howling blast and cause aoe effects to proc off normally single target abilities. It’s sorta just there and certainly can be used, but definitely doesn’t have to be. It’s more of a way to dump an extra rune after Oblit spamming and add aoe to your cleave rotation, it’s not the core of it.
Abilities or Talents Frost DK can use that cleave without DnD:
-Reaper’s Mark (Wave of Souls/Exterminate)
-Howling Blast/Frost Fever
-Relentless Winter
-Frost Strike if playing Shattering Blade
-Obliterate with KM if Arctic Assault is talented
-Glacial Advance by itself
-Frostwyrm’s Fury
-Pillar of Frost if whelpling is talented
-Breath of Sindragosa
-Chill Streak if talented
-(Rider’s Champion abilities if talented)
Abilities that Frost DKs have that require DnD to cleave:
-Obliterate
And therein lies the problem, for 2h Frost which favors Obliterate, it should have a cleave mechanic that doesn’t rely on DnD. Tie it to Remorseless Winter or give it another way to cleave without DnD. It just feels like Blizz trying to make 2h Frost less appealing.

i think it’s just the class thing. every spec uses it for cleave.
i personally think they just need to change the animation for it based on spec, which seems easy enough for them to do like how blood boil turns blue for deathbringer blood dks.
blood - stays the same
frost - becomes frosty
unholy - defile

I’ve always thought the same thing. D&D should just be Bloods, Defile should just be Unholy D&D, and Frost should get its own Frosty tundra version.
At the least a glyph to make it blue.

I could see them just rolling it into remorseless winter like someone else mentioned. Similar CD, but it’s improved since it follows you around

I was going to say as well haha. This place is an echo chamber for that comment though… haha. It is defiantly amazing playing riders and not having to ever waste a global on D&D most the time.

The worst is when you cast D&D and it the rune you spend procs mograine. That needs to be coded so he cant spawn off D&D

The Death’s Due visual is blue and could be used for frost. I wish that visual was a glyph so that I could use it outside SL zones.

Or if you use DnD and a mechanic forces the mob to be moved out of it. This is why Frost DK cleave should be tied to Remorseless Winter, would solve the issue, but Blizz insists on DnD being part of the class.
