Frost changes!

I am pumped! Still don’t like certain things like a need to talent into using a 2h weapon but this update has some very nice changes I am excited for. New ways to apply razor ice too!

Icecap

  • No longer a choice node with Obliteration

  • Now available directly after Frostwhelp’s Aid or Enduring Strength

New Talent – Shattering Strike

  • When Frost Strike damages an enemy with 5 stacks of Razorice it will consume them to deal an additional 60% damage.

  • Available directly after Icecap
    I remember when this talent some time ago. I also remember it didn last long cuz people complained that consuming the stacks and reapplying them was bothersome

So is the burst for FS y’all want?

Alright, let’s see here.

  • Unleashed Frenzy now works with any RP. That’s good.
  • FS and Runic Command swapped, still not gonna choose Runic Command.
  • Glacial Advance has no cooldown! That’s POG.
  • Icecap and Obliteration no longer mutually exclusive! MEGA POG.
  • Shattering Strike returns. Another POG.
  • Avalanche applies RI? MEGA POG

Wow… That’s an actually a big dub for Frost DK.

At a quick glance, a couple of small issues I have are;

  1. 2H still a talent.
  2. 10 2-Point nodes still.
  3. Empowered Rune Weapon on Frost tree behind Cold Heart?

Things I would like to see;

  1. Get rid of Icebreaker & Bonegrinders “2nd Point” node so the bottom doesn’t feel bloated with point spending.
  2. Possibly also getting rid of Improved Obliterate and Rime’s “2nd Point” node, as Frost players will not go for Obliteration and Breath together as they do not synergize, allowing us a couple more points to spend in the “8-20” portion of the tree.

Okay this is actually amazing. I feel like they heard us on shattering strikes, the separation of icecap and obliteration is beautiful, and we finally have some new razorice synergy.

I’m impressed.

One potential concern I have is how a 2h build will play out with shattering strikes using FC runeforge.

With two ways to alternatively stack RI, the ramp up time will obviously be significantly reduced.

Only problem here is that the ratio of rp gained per 2 runes spent doesn’t equate to a 1:1 ratio, so we’re actually looking at a pretty similar timeframe to reach full stacks. (Likely down from 30s to 25s or so).

So this does create a situation where the ability to stack razorice with abilities loses a ton of value since the only feasible way to use this talent is to consistently apply stacks via autos and all abilities using RI runeforge. Probably won’t be taking this on a 2h build. Rip frost strike.

Wait so we can have both Icecap AND Obliteration? That would be absolutely massive with consistent KM Obliterate burst windows with Pillar…from a PvP perspective that’s crazy good.

With Razorice applied by Rime and Glacial Advance having no CD, it means we get to use Rune of the Fallen Crusader for more strength and healing…also massive.

With improved Rime AND Icebreaker talents, it looks like our Rime Howling Blast’s are going to pump.

This is very good.

I was kind of expecting something else for frenzy, but this works too.

I love this from a pvp standpoint. Pve wise it makes crit even more degenerative of a stat now.

I think they’ll probably end up decoupling them, so oblit stays on a 1 minute cooldown. But yeah I think guaranteed crits should scale with crit chance.

Horn of Winter, why do they want to shove this on us. An ability that does nothing but regenerate resources is a rubbish pick EVERYTIME.

It would be like having a talent for Warriors called

LOUD NOISES
45 sec cooldown
Yell really loudly, impressing your allies with your manliness, granting you 20 rage.

Now I’ll have some of you say something like, but yeah Malchior, theres times where we don’t have any resources and this is true, but this is a problem that should be rectified by removing the RNG BS that plagues our Rune regeneration talents, not throwing bandaid solutions with a talent tax.

Other than that, I like the tree, although 2H Frost will need something done about runeforges. Simple fix would just allow 2H weapons to use two at a time.

Shattering strikes sounds really bad. Why are you excited for it exactly?

Frost strike hitting hard again sounds amazing on paper, but it’s a bit useless and should be replaced with eradicating blow

This is basically what battle shout is, only it actually does something.

But really, they should consider just adding that regen into obliteration since breath generates 4 runes on its own already.

  • Because it interacts with the kit instead of just “Razorice makes stuff hit harder”?
  • Because having debuffs that are stack and forget is boring, unengaging gameplay, and Shattering Strikes remedies that?
  • Because there’s still fond memories of Antorus tier & Shattering Strikes and seeing Frost Strike have massive hits that no other ability could come close to?
  • Because it makes Frost Strike not hit like a noodle?
  • Because it’s actually a well designed talent?

Take your pick.

Eradicating Blow is absolute trash and Frost is lucky it hasn’t made an appearance in the tree.
