Frost AoE seems very lacking compared to others

I always thought frost excelled at AoE but I cannot for the life of me keep up with others in M+. The build isn’t really an issue but I don’t know, something feels really off. Am I right in my suspicions that the frost mage AoE dmg isn’t up to par right now?

Mage AoE is pretty bad at the moment (arcane has pretty decent ST and cleave based on the parses coming out of the new raid). Blizzard has not responded to any of our posts. Some of us gave hundreds of feedback submissions during Beta testing and while they did listen to a few of the streamers, they did not fix the underlying problems.

Not sure what more can be done. At best, they will buff fire/frost toward the top of the bottom third of DPS (like they did last xpac with frost). It just doesn’t seem likely though since they nerfed frost frozen orb recently and even after the buffs to fire, they are still falling flat in the raid.

I would say it will be better once people have their 2pc/4pc, but what I think would help the most is giving the Blizzard devs vouchers to take a math class so they can understand how numbers work. :stuck_out_tongue:

I suppose the best I can do is contribute with feedback and stuff like this thread. Thanks for your post, by the way. I felt like I’ve been doing the rotation quite well but the DPS leaves a lot to be desired.

Well, it’s better than Fire aoe

Even in aoe phase majority of your damage is just ice lance, and frozen orb+blizzard combo is supplimentary to have more ice lances by reducing cooldown on frozen orb, lmao.

Remember we’re not the only ones that have access to tier set, and ours isn’t on the higher end of performance.

And even Arcane took an indirect hit with the trinket nerf yesterday.

Im doing fine in Mythic plus and was in the top 5 dps in my guilds raid last night. I run the “cleave” build without having to stack damage from Snowstorm. Make sure you are using Ice nova for some extra burst damage on big packs and just casting frozen orb with blizzard. Spam ice lance like your life depends on it and your dps should be fine. Frost also has a bit of an issue in early xpac because they’re more gear dependant than arcane, and fire hurts from this even more than frost.

problem with that is that you can’t really do anything to make your dps higher. Demo warlock casually triple your dps with one implosion and demon spinning attack

sure in lower level keys we dont have a lot of burst aoe, so it may seem like were underperforming because mobs dont last that long, I can keep pace with most classes and even do better in aoe packs, but I’m pretty much always first or close second on boss fights.

I love how all the alts & non-level 70 Mage posters seem to say Mage is fine while all the level 70 Mages are complaining about the class. It makes me think there is some sort of Discord whose sole goal is to keep Mages from getting buffed. They probably have people on the inside as well. It’s so bizarre.

With all due respect, I did omit boss fights since single-target DPS seems to be pretty good right now. But I also find it hard to believe you’re constantly in the top of AoE given that I’ve played this class for years and haven’t this weak in AoE since probably Legion.

No this mage is level 70 with 380 ilvl gear, the armory is bugged and wont update my character to level 70.

Keep in mind it isn’t about a specific person doing well or doing poorly. Looking at the set of parses that have come in for normal and heroic Vault, frost (and fire) are bottom of the list. Even if both specs received a 30% damage increase, they would still be middle of the pack. That is across all of the fights.

Keep in mind that several of us have been vocal on the forums during Beta testing. Blizzard has done relatively little to address the issues. Even if they listen (which I am relatively certain at this point that they ignore us “peons” who complain on the forums), the best they will do is just toss damage % increase patches at us.

At this point, they need to uncap frozen orb and blizzard, re-allow IP to benefit from frozen orb/blizzard crits, revert the frozen orb nerf, and still give the class a base 25% damage increase.

Fire has a similar situation at the moment, but the fire mages can speak for themselves.

As for arcane. They seem to be in a decent place for the raid content, but I would be interested in seeing how their M+ damage profiles look.
