From where so many Night Elves?

Just finished my raid yesterday.
I was killing Night Elves, some elementals, again Night Elves, more Night Elves, a little bit of other races, more Night Elves, and finally a Dragon…

I was just wondering, from where so many evil Night Elves appeared? I’m just tired to kill all those Night Elves almost on every quest on that new island…

Weren’t Night Elves supposes to be in “almost instinct” status after BfA? We had those 2 books Elegy and a Good War, where Saurfang told “NE civilization is over”, Tyrande told “we refugees in Stormwind are all what is left of our race”.
And now we kill thousands of thousands Night Elves every day on a quests…

So, my question, is there some Lore explanation from where so many Night Elves appeared? Are those some old Night Elves cultists that were always hiding from our eyes in some underground dungeons? Or those books actually should not be counted as a Lore, and there actually a lot of Night Elves left after BfA ???

Not even close.
Night Elves own more land than any player race.

Where they came from? Who knows, blizzard has zero care for actually going into detail on population density even though they said the blood elves lost 90% of their number during the scourge invasion. Yet that never really comes up since they can still field an army significant enough for any horde endeavor, so gist of it is there’s always enough of a race for whatever blizzard wants to do with them.

I always question where people get this head canon from :

Um, short answer - no.

Anduin worried about there being too few - what ever that means. If only one kaldorei died during the whole war, there would be “too few remaining” for Anduin’s taste.

Anduin’s opinion on what “too few” means seems to be one metric used by the self flagellating Night Elf fans who want their story to be worse than it is.

Meanwhile, the pictures in the books show Night Elves overflowing Stormwind as they escape Teldrassil.

The OP asks where the Night Elves came from. I wonder if the OP listened to one too many podcasts or read too many reddit posts. If one tunes out the horse pucky, and pays attention to the lore, they would know the kaldorei were far from extinct.

Also the matter of “number of people” in WoW has never mattered to the setting, but yeah night elves are definitely not on the verge of extinction. Blood elves should be close to extinction but they seem fine cause it’s not important enough for blizzard.

Not even just Horde endeavors.

Horde Quest Giver : “Velen needs some Blood Elves to look sexy riding on the Vindicaar. That is your mission, should you choose to accept it.”

Also short story back during wrath era where Syl threatened Lor’themar into sending blood elves to northrend cause they had apparently enough bodies to be significant to the war effort.

Well op does have a bit of a point. We were told fairly explicitly and with some reinforcement that the night elves were genocided at Teldrassil. To be fair to everyone else the did also say that many actually escaped the flames to Stormwind.

My head canon is that nightelf primalists are probably left over firelands fanatics who have stumbled on a new cause.

My sweet summer child.

Did you know Gnomes are almost extinct?
High/Blood Elves?
Did you know that there should logically only be, like, 16 Void Elves in existence?
Did you know that it’s a miracle that Draenei even still around?

Population numbers in WoW will never ever matter.
Every race and faction could suffer innumerable losses time and time again, and still have enough bodies to remain relevant.

Population numbers might occasionally be trotted out to meet some narrative objective. But it never stays.
We’re told “Oh geeze. We have to draft farmers now!” to stress how bad things are. And then it will never be mentioned again.

Life will go on.
Life will find a way.

What does land ownership have to do with being not almost extinct?

Now that’s headcanon.

Point being is that statement from Anduin was immediately contradicted when the next short story showed stormwind being inundated with night elf survivors.

So many infact, they had start sending them to outlying towns like goldshire

Point being Cursewords is making baseless speculation that any dead Night Elf would = too few.

But to address your separate and different point from what he said, that’s not contradictory. A race can be far too few (and even near extinct) and able to overload a foreign city with refugees.

Stormwind is massive though. It’s far bigger than what the game shows. A people that are Too Few aren’t likely to overwhelm a city like stormwind. Especially considering there couldn’t have been that many living in darnassus, when you factor in all the towns and villages the kaldorei have spread all over kalimdor

This is highly speculative. Without numbers, I don’t think we can really say how many refugees the city could house on demand. For all we know, they couldn’t take in 1,000 elves.

Again, highly speculative how many people were on Teldrassil versus everywhere else. We’re not really given any indication of that population divide.

Which is kind of silly to debate when you think about. It’s all speculation, especially in a game where population numbers are largely irrelevant to the story they want to tell.

But it’s fun either way to talk about. Assuming everyone is cordial about it

Fwiw, I’m fine if people have an opinion speculate to some extent. I just don’t think this situation is cut and dry.

Night Elves are teetering on extinction and this story implies that we the players are hitting the final nail on the proverbial coffin of the Kaldorei people. By killing so many we are taking an endangered vulnerable species and bringing them down by the score. This would be like taking 1000 endangered turtles and whittling them down by 500+. That is making things worse and you a Kaldorei are helping drive your own people further to the maws of extinction… Idk how I feel about this. Even if they are the enemies.

We should try to save them for the sake of saving the species overall. Show Elune’s mercy or Tyrande’s…

It’s not cut and dry and it’s complicated by the fact we don’t have any concrete numbers on how many night elves died and how many were actually living in the tree at the time.

All we have is speculation due to blizz contradicting their own narrative

They’re populoused in their lands.

You can own a lot of land without having a lot of population. What is the connection?
