Just curious at what point did you guys realize that your game went from an amazing AAA massively multiplayer role playing gaming experience, to a massively multiplayer dress up and collecting game?
For me it happened around Cata launch when most of the OG gang quit after killing Arthas.
I was super excited for transmog even though I knew it opened up the opportunities to sell cosmetics in a shop, which doesn’t bother me that’s the norm.
Unfortunately in recent times, especially with the upcoming trading post and the new “currency” it seems so much of the gameplay for WoW’s core is taking a backseat for cosmetics and collecting.
Do we really need 1000 different toys? Do we really need all these mounts and pets?
I was one of those kids that felt horrible for not playing with all of my stuffed animals, giving one to much attention… It’s impossible to give equal love to all my pets and mounts. There’s just so many!
Words cannot explain the disappointment in completing a renown milestone and receiving a new garden shovel transmog.
I just hope there are people out there that really wanted that garden shovel. And those 12 different reskins of the same mount. This definitely became the game for you.

Probably around late Stormblood, when gameplay began getting easier and easier despite already being the easiest on the market - then got terribly homogenized in Shadowbringers and was just a downhill spiral from there. And now most content updates revolve around outfits and furnishings.
Oh wait, you weren’t talking about that other MMO? My bad!

It’s all just fluff to keep people on the treadmill to collect. If you strip all of that back yea there isn’t much else going on but the PvP is still fun.

Yeah I still enjoy the casual pvp. DF thankfully improved upon that.
It just kind of boggles my mind the amount of cosmetic rewards outside of that. It just becomes silly.

Totally agree. They could stop making new toys and still have too many for a couple of expansions

The game has always been in large part a “dress up and collecting game”. Before transmog and then before the collection tab, we just hoarded things in our bank.

Could you imagine all the content we would be short of due to housing items if we had that system.
I think more than a raid tier would be cut.
It would become fantasy sims.
You’ve been playing, subbing, and posting about a game you don’t like anymore since Cata. If WoW was a person, they should have you charged with stalking.

I like collecting armor sets, but the mount/pet/toy bloat is super real and I’m glad I don’t actively hunt that stuff

I have really bad OCD! It’s something I am happy I was mentally able to stay away from due to medical reasons… Not even joking lol.

Could be worse. Could be a featherduster…

When I got the rake transmog I was so outraged that I killed my dragon and ate him.

Or a waded up piece of tape and some string. Well, to be honest.
That’s how it felt to my CHAMPION of Azeroth receiving a garden shovel.

WoW factions have always had a problem with expressing gratitude properly, but it makes you understand why they’re being attacked in the first place.

Lmao! There’s been so many wtf moments to rewards in DF it’s comical to be honest.
“Ohhhh you grinded for hours, here’s a little hammer! Go bob the builder it up!”

When you think about it, there is literally no point to this game outside of achievements, transmogs and pets. That’s the entire game.

Around Wod the game started to just seem like a different game.
