From >100 FPS to barely breaking 25 FPS post-update

Just logged in tonight after 2 nights of playing the same new character post-patch. Nothing of note changed these past 2 nights as far as framerate is concerned.

Noticed a relatively small update on the launcher before starting the game tonight, though.

And now…? MY FRAMES! Where have they gone!?

Prior to tonight, I’ve run the entirety of BFA at full-ultra settings, 4K resolution, at ~100 FPS average irrespective of load.

Now? My new rogue is sitting in Valiance Keep choking on his own tongue at 25 FPS.

You’ve taken my -frames-. If you’re looking for ransom, I can tell you I don’t have money (ever since I bought the parts for this PC)… but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long “career” in this game. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my -frames- go now, that will be the end of it - I will not look for you, I will not pursue you… but if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you… and I will probably VSYNC tear my screen attempting to kill you, fail, and then ragequit.

(2080ti & i9-9980XE btw. All drivers are up-to-date.)

The same. Something is wrong. I’ll go play some other game while this gets sorted out.

Edit: I did a force quit on Battle.net and restarted my PC. The problem has gone away.

I have hard-booted my computer twice now since today’s minor update. The problem persists. I recall this problem happening at the beginning of BFA too, and then one day >POOF< no more framerate issues. Stayed that way through the entire expansion.

And now here I am. Hello darkness, my old friend.

its the new shadow settings. turn them to ultra instead of ultra-high. and also turn off ray tracing shadows in advanced. boom there’s all your fps.

That was step one before posting this thread. No dice.

Sliding the bar all the way to the left and disabling all additional effects in >advanced< caps me out at 59.9 FPS. My background/foreground/target FPS sliders are maxed at 200. Something is definitely wrong.

It looks as though my FPS limit is hard-set to 60 baseline.

[EDIT: Well duh, I toggled VSYNC when messing with the settings. Disabling it solves that issue, but not the choking when I revert all my settings.]
