Friends List Note Issues

Hello,

I noticed, over the last few days that I am unable to remove friends from battle.net. I am also unable to remove or add people to favorites on battle.net (all within WoW). I tried turning off every addon to see if this would help.

I even, just now, made a backup of my WTF and Interface folders (WTF 2 / Interface 2) and tried and nothing.

Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this? I also just ran a scan/repair on wow.

I Just checked and, not sure if relevant, but I cannot remove any battle.net notes from people in game nor can I add any. I can, but when I hit “Okay” it does not save their updated note/removed note.

The only thing that I have not tried yet is a fresh install. Anyone else every experience this?

Still no solution… not sure what to do.

I just did a full reinstall of WoW, with no addons or anything and the issue still persists.

Is it possible that this issue with with Battle.net? I am unable to do any of these things even from the battle.net launcher.

You could try a Bnet reinstall - won’t take long Soundscape.

Step 5 must be completed - delete the Battle.net folder

I just uninstalled, then went to look for the folder but it was removed. Reinstalling now.

Hmm - are you sure you were looking in the right location for that Battle.net folder. It is likely the key here. Unless things have changed I don’t think the uninstaller removes it.

Try this:

First restart computer to end any running Blizzard processes. Then right-click the Start button and select Run to open the Run command in Windows.

(or use keyboard shortcut: Windows key + R)

Type or paste %PROGRAMDATA% in the Run command box. Click OK. The ProgramData folder should open. Delete the Battle.net and Blizzard Entertainment folders.

Afterwards right click on the Battle.net desktop icon. Select “Run as Administrator”.

Ah! I misunderstood. OK.

I rebooted my PC. Made sure nothing booted on started up. Then I uninstalled, restarted, hit Win+R for the Run prompt, entered %PROGRAMDATA%, deleted the folder.

I just reinstalled battle.net, logged in, and tried to remove a note and no luck. I tried replacing the note with something else and no luck. However, I was now able to remove someone from favorites!

Well I suppose that’s a small win. You might open a ticket on this - I don’t have any other ideas.

Alright, I opened a ticket and tried a dozen + steps with Blizzard. The issue is half resolved and I wanted to share in hopes that this might help someone else, later on, should they experience this issue.

What I did was:

  1. Uninstall Battle.net
  2. Uninstall World of Warcraft
  3. Renamed the World of Warcraft folder in the program files directory to “WOW”
  4. Rebooted my PC
  5. Pressed Win Key + R, for the run prompt, typed in %PROGRAMDATA% and hit run
  6. From there I deleted the Battle.net folder and the Blizzard Entertainment folders
  7. I rebooted my PC
  8. I reinstalled Battle.net
  9. Once it was reinstalled I opened it, logged in, and went through and deleted all of the notes from my entire friends list. I right clicked the friend’s name from the battle.net friends list and selected “View Friend Note”. This time it let me, though there was a 3-5 second delay before the battle.net client reflected the removal of the note.
  10. I reinstalled World of Warcraft and logged in.
  11. Currently I still have all of the notes when logged into WOW, and when I try to change or delete them from within WOW, then look at the note on a friend again the old note was there.

All of the notes in game start with “#”, which as “#RealLife”, could this be the issue?

This is officially a known issue by Blizzard! Huzzah! Perhaps this will get fixed soon.

I opened a new ticket today after I created a new admin user account on a PC, then installed battle.net and wow and had the same issue.

This was the response:

“ Dear Christian,

Issue ID: #79342123

Your ticket has received the following response:

Howdy Christian,

Game Master Ixzal here and sorry to hear about this situation with removing favorites. We have received similar reports and based on everything you have tried, this seems like a bug with the Blizzard app. We can forward this issue to the Bug team but I would also recommend reporting this issue on the forums:

In the mean time, you may want to try testing another computer to see if there’s any change.

Best wishes!

Thanks for reporting that Soundscape. So it is a bug - not a common one as your thread has been the only one I’ve seen recently.
