Friendly Player Base

I just finished up a mythic 0 dungeon and was absolutely reamed by a party member because I didn’t take the route he wanted as a tank. We need to do better as a community. Not to make excuses, but I work 12-13 hour days, I have a wife, and a 6 month old child. The only time I can actually play is maybe 1-1.5 hours at night…

I tried to explain to the party that I don’t normally have a lot of time to play, but I absolutely love dungeons and I asked them to teach me the route that is best. The response I got was, “Dude, we are in week 3. wtf”. I was also told that I need to watch videos. Why would I watch videos with limited time? The person in question was also the healer and it was clear to see that he was avoiding giving heals just to make life hard.

I want to enjoy the game I’ve loved for years. I’d rather play with my limited time than watch Youtube videos of the content I want to be in. The best way to learn is with a group of good people who help you develop your skills.

We need to be better as a community and fix this issue. Now I see why Blizzard is focusing on solo play gameplay. From now on, I’ll probably stay away from group content .

On a positive note, a Hunter was kind enough to tell everyone that Mythic 0’s are a place of learning and that they needed to chill. We need more people like that player.

All in all, the experience I’ve had with mythic 0’s have been distasteful. I doubt I’ll even try keys since I have limited time to play.

EDIT 1:

So it looks like a lot of people are taking this post out of context so let me clarify a few things. I don’t go into a dungeon blind without understanding the mechanics of the fights and the notable trash mobs between bosses. The only issue that occurred was that I thought I had to take one route to the first boss and clear up through the room, when there was an much better route that ran up the side of the room to the boss. Honestly, the route we took last night was much better than what I was doing.

The issue I had was, the route I started was the route that I took for the many heroic dungeons I ran prior to being geared for mythic (Yes, it took me forever because I only run dungeons when I KNOW I can dedicate the time to the other players. I absolutely hate it when a dungeon is cut short because someone leaves). No players from my previous parties told me that there was a better route so I was oblivious to it and I didn’t feel a need to look up “optimal route for dungeon” because it was a Mythic 0 and there was no pressure for time.

I hope that clears things up because:

  1. I would never waste someone’s time going into a mythic 0 blind and expect people to carry me thru (I would let them know ahead of time and would give them the opportunity to kick me or leave)
  2. There is a social expectation to be a decent human being and provide small corrections to party members instead of being a jerk. For example: “Hey, we need to interrupt those. Are you able? or should I do it when it pops?”, “Hey, watch out for that ability, it’s pretty quick.”, and “Hey, lets wait for the mob to pass, we can skip this pull”
  3. This game is a video game and not life. Try and have fun, make friends, and understand that some people play this game because they loved it when they were younger, and they are just trying to enjoy something that makes them happy.

All in all, have fun out there and watch out for one another. You never know what someone is going through and they may just be trying to get away from life for a brief moment. There have been times (not this one) where I turned to WoW to escape troubles in my life and I have ran into some very toxic people. It makes life so much worse and makes you feel horrible for a brief time. Just be kind. You never know who is on the other end of the keyboard.

All I will say is good luck with that. With all the snobbish elf players you have your work cut out for you.

i get what you are saying and i do sympathize to a degree but something about this just doesn’t sit right with me.

  1. you have limited time in your life for your hobbies but that isn’t anyone else’s problem but your own if we are being real
  2. people have already provided you with the information you need improve in group content, yet you refuse to improve from watching videos and reading guides. please make that make sense.
  3. you keep bringing up that you have limited time to play, but you never thought about other peoples time, you are essentially wasting their time expecting randoms to teach you, they didnt sign up to be wow guide or wow teacher. their time also matters as yours does to you.
  4. if you actually valued your time and other peoples time, you would spend what little time you have to improve. it wouldnt even take long. maybe a few days of spending hours on it then you will be better for the rest of your time playing wow, but rather then do that, you blame randoms for not spending their precious time teaching you? this doesnt make sense.

there are people like myself who can watch a video or try to read a guide and still don’t get it. We need to practice, Failure is a good teacher the more you fail the more you learn not to fail in the future.

now more then ever there are countless upon countless ways to do that. but OP refuses to even put in the smallest amount of effort or time of their own to do so.

you could hire coachs in game from a good guild with gold. or from a website. there is so many resources to improve, at this point anyone that refuses to do so is self sabotaging.

and randoms should never be expected to be your teacher for the day. as already stated their time matters as much as anyones.

This is a Massive Multiplayer Online Game yes? A game where you work together and build a community? A game where you achieve goals together?

Online guides are awesome and I do use them all the time. I knew the fights. I knew how the dungeon was supposed to progress. The issue was that it was a dungeon I wasn’t too familiar with the 100% efficiency route with because it was from Shadowlands and I didn’t get to play much of that expansion.

Comments like this is exactly why WoW is seen as one of the most toxic communities.

WoW should not be a job where you have to spend hours off game to learn how to fit in. The community should welcome you and help you along. If it was a key? Sure. I get it. But a basic mythic? Get off your high horse and lose the elitist attitude bro.

Tank has a big role on dungeon. They usually lead the group. Always go to the dungeon prepared especially on competitive premade dungeons.

If you dont know how, there is Normal and Heroic dungeon. Master it. Then when you know the basics, step to M0.

You can also watch a sample video to familiarize with the route. You could use Follower Dungeons as practice. WHen you master it, step to M0.

Dont go to M0 to learn. People were doing dungeons over and over while leveling. And it’s your first time at max level? They will gun you down.

If you dont want the pressure of leading a group, roll a DPS. Just follow them. You can also play DPS to learn the route. Then when you master the map, you can start Tanking.

so what exactly are you expecting from randoms? to hold your hand everywhere you go in game? lord that is some serious main character syndrome.

other players time is important to them as yours is to you. you clearly do not understand that or care about anyone else’s time but your own.

ironically you are the toxic one expecting everything from everyone else but not even putting in the smallest amount of effort.

n…no?
it’s a video game.
an online video game… y’know online? where people are free to be awful in many ways without consequence.

make friends where ya can or don’t.
either way, adapt & overcome.

Imagine it’s early 2005 and you just entered your first dungeon and a dude yells at you because you haven’t watched a video or read a guide.

Either way, at the end of the day, I’ll still lay next to my wife and kis my kid goodnight. Maybe it’s time to hang up the hat on WoW. Clearly, if you don’t fit in, then you don’t belong. I’d rather spend the limited free time playing something else or maybe watching a tv show with the family. lol.

I was just trying to say that people should be nicer. I think Platinumtwo has proved my point.

Most players aren’t willing to teach or work with you unless they know you, finding those kinds of people are a miracle really, ignore them and take the beating… really all that can be done.

Some tactics you might try:

  • Heroics are the intended difficulty range for learning and preparing. Hopping right in at M0 is pretty aggressive.
  • If you really want to start in M0, consider picking up your DPS spec. That way you can learn the route from a tank that’s been through it. Heck, if the tank does well you can ask them questions. You could possibly even make a friend.

There’s a lot of ways to do this. You’re not wrong – people should be nicer to each other. But I think in your example, you need to take some accountability for knowing how to play at the difficulty level you’re trying.

You’re the prime example of the toxic part of the wow community.

The big problem is that a large portion of the player base are unfriendly and generally terrible people. Mythic + tends to bring out the worst of this.

I don’t think you could really fix this without getting rid a good chunk of the player base. Your best bet would be to avoid pugging whenever possible.

Give them a warning. If they don’t behave, leave them and make them go back to wait in line for a tank. Show them how meaningless groups are without a tank.

The playerbase needs to teach instead of treating tanks like dogs on a leash. It might be the last month of the expansion, but if you’re new to the content, they have two options: be patient and help you out with tips, or go back to the line and wait for another tank.

Not everyone is open to helping others learn. That’s okay—their time is important too.

Maybe you can find a guild/ community of friendly people to play and learn with?

Another resource you can try is the WoWMadeEasy Discord and Community. There’s a lot of helpful people there that’d be happy to group with you.
