I played WoW from Vanilla up through about BfA. I’m just a few hours into SoD and I’m constantly reminded why I hated Vanilla, and why I ended up maining Hunter and Warlock and other classes that could solo well: The lack of shared nodes and open looting incentivizes people to play like absolute jerks.
I’m not even level 10 and I’ve already had people train mobs on me to take resource nodes or get me killed so they could take the rare elite I was fighting. It completely defeats the purpose of an MMORPG for me. Members of your own faction should not be incentivized to screw you over.
The playerbase clearly can’t be trusted to not play like selfish jerks, which is why later expansions slowly incorporated more and more solutions to mitigate this.
That’s the single biggest thing I wish had been brought back to SoD from future patches. Not Shaman and Warlock tanks. Not class-defining passives. Not new content in old zones. The one thing I wish more than anything for SoD to have are the changes that incentivize cooperation and instead of selfishness.
Someone got me killed instead of partying with me for a rare elite so they could get a white quality cloak and a green quest reward they couldn’t even use. They chose to make me feel like absolute crap for a white cloak and a green to vendor. And the game allowed it. The game rewarded them for making my play time drastically worse.
So if the devs are still deciding what features to add to future SoD patches, please, please, please consider adding some features that discourage that kind of toxic behavior and reward people for working together. I promise you it won’t break the game if you let players group loot all the time.
Now excuse me while I abandon my character and reroll to a class that can’t be sniped when pulling, can survive having mobs trained on them, and can solo rare elites before anyone toxic gets a chance to show up and start griefing.
