Fresh servers need RDF. Here’s why

Imagine if you will blizzard listened to the great majority of its player base that wants RDF and re implemented it recognizing that the system they are currently building is a worse version of retail’s mythic+ system.

Now imagine rerolling on one of those fresh servers. You’re alliance and just dinged 10 and you’re suddenly introduce to RDF and you see the RDF icon on your minibar. You click it and see there is a dungeon called “ragefire chasm”. Interested, you click “find group” and then go back to questing.

A short time later you hear a loud boom and a window pops up telling you your group is ready. You hit enter and all of a sudden you’re in a dungeon you’ve never seen before with 4 other unlikely travellers from your server.

It’s a fresh server. No one knows anyone yet but you’re all excited to be on this adventure together. You introduce yourselves and share some niceties then go about destroying the dungeon.

The last boss drops the felblade and you win the roll.

You think “wow! That was amazing and this weapon is so great i’m only level 10.”

You also met some great new people who you would have never had the opportunity to play with if not for RDF. Maybe you added one of them to your friends list or maybe you got an invite to their guild.

Then you go back to questing in Elywnn forest with a great sense of accomplishment and reward.

This experience could only happen with RDF. RDF is a MAJOR community building tool. The idea that RDF hurts the community is misplaced. Cross realms destroy communities, not RDF.

Blizzard do not take this amazing leveling experience away from us. Especially on the new servers. Implement realm only RDF for all non heroic dungeons and leave the retail LFG system in for lvl 80 heroics if you must.

Since all they care so much about community, they should do same-realm RDF.
…but this will hurt a lot of small servers and mega server opposite faction.

The whole thing is dumb.
It should b at launch or even prepatch.

I guess my argument to that is having RDF (or not having RDF) does not hurt or help small servers and the players experience would be identical with or without it.

Also, it is not RDFs job to solve server population problems. RDFs job is to put like minded players into groups to do dungeons. If there isn’t enough players to do that, that’s on blizzard to fix via realm consolidations, realm incentives, or realm transfers

Honest question. How large do you think the cross section of players that:

  1. came back for classic wrath servers
    And
  2. aren’t aware of Rage fire Chasm

Is?

Cause I can assure you it is close to zero

Guess how many alliance get to do ragefire without LFD? Guess how many horde get to do stockades or deadmines? How many Alliance do BFD or Wailing Caverns?

RDF is a way to expand content and experience for leveling characters.

It means more content being done by more players.

The nightmare LFG tool (yes have used it) will be an abyss when it is used at any appreciable scale.

Exactly and especially on fresh realms where 1000s of players are new and are all leveling together at the same time. This would make for a wonderful experience and a great way to build a fantastic community.

And blizzard already has the system but they are intentionally leaving it out to implement a retail mythic+ version of LFG. It’s just absolutely bonkers to me they would do that

Contrary it won’t hurt anyone. It can only help.

but how will you and your band of adventurers venture into the underground and DISCOVER the said dungeon? dont you want to know how you got there? where you are? why there’s a dungeon there? how it fits in the world? what are you fighting for? who are you fighting? why?

I think you’re grossly overestimating how many brand new players that didn’t play wow or wotlk for that matter are gonna be on fresh servers.

RDF starts at 15 not 10

We didnt need RDF to hit 60 in classic or 70 in tbc so “need” is a strong word, alot of the quests for RFC are horde only (same with deadmines and stockades being alliance heavy on quests).

RDF is a terrible concept. It’s one of the long list of modern “Quality of Life” changes that have cumulatively destroyed retail WoW. I realize it was in Wrath, and the expansion would’ve been better without it. LFR is the exact same way. Yes, it was in Cataclysm, but I hope to god that Classic Cataclysm doesn’t have it.

It’s not World of Warcraft Classic if you can stand in town and mindlessly queue for all of the game’s content, get teleported there, and be automatically grouped with an AI generated group/raid composition of strangers you’ll never see again. That’s a theme park. It’s been deleterious to the modern MMO landscape and is patently antithetical to the Classic experience we’ve abandoned retail to get away from.

Hard no from me, dog. Join a guild and a discord. Meet people. Network. Expand your RealID and friends list. You want to do a dungeon? Start messaging those people. THAT’S a community. I swear the most persistent RFD proponents are socially anxious weirdos that value convenience over community-building.
