So. Just offer free transfers off

Lazershock is unfortunately correct. New servers are fun but there’s not really a way to win with them. The new characters don’t want people to transfer over because it ruins the authenticity of having only new characters, but without the ability for people to transfer the servers lose momentum quickly and seem to vanish fast.

I’d like to see servers consolidated onto larger single realms like they’ve done in Anniversary.

Megaservers are garbage and have killed Anniversary, actually.

Last time they tried that was at the start of Wrath. Dead server 3 months in. They won’t do it again.

Please explain how they garbage?

There is no server community.
Everyone is a stranger.
Promotes toxicity.
It’s a bot haven.
Layers, layers, layers. They shouldn’t exist in Classic.

Not too sure how it killed it when Nightslayer has constant players 24/7 for literally everything.
The only issue with a megaserver is the fact that Vanilla is just such a small game and it’s easy to clutter a zone because of this, Xpacs such as MoP however has such massive zones to where this doesn’t really matter much.

You don’t need a megaserver to have 24/7 players for everything. You need a healthy pop server. Megaservers are not healthy.

And if all you want is convenience…why not just play Retail? Although Megaservers are…less horrible for Cata. Since the game had changed drastically anyway. They have no place on a Vanilla realm.

Everytime they add a fresh server, that server dies as soon as transfers open up.

I think it can work but yeah no xfers out, only in.

  1. there will always be layers unless you’re on a server of 3,000 people and that will not last because people don’t like waiting for groups to form for an hour.
  2. Bots are on every realm. Bad argument.
  3. Toxicity is in gaming EVERYWHERE. Another bad argument
  4. I have 2 characters on whitemane, which is a smaller server now and it’s even more dead. No one talks, besides looking for groups. Same as it is on Mankrik. Though, i’d argue on Mankrik people are always talking about random stuff.

I hate to break it to you but WoW lost its “community feeling” 15 years ago. It’s just how it is now. It’s a new Era in gaming. People aren’t as sociable or want to be. And I’d argue it’s because of the age of wow players nowadays. Back then the average age of wow players was like 21 or 22. Now i’d be willing to bet its up in the near 30s, and classic is probably higher than 30. People have things to do, want the fastest way to rewards. that’s all anyone really cares about anymore. Which is why gold buying is so rampant.

  1. No there aren’t. Layers exist on Megaservers. Healthy pop servers don’t need them.
  2. Are you serious? Megaservers are made for bots. All their customers on one server. Get lost in the crowds. It couldn’t be more perfect.
  3. Toxicity is much, much, much worse on Megaservers, where everyone is a stranger. It also promotes the toxic playstyle where all that matters is min/maxing elitist mentality. You’re not a person, you’re an easily replaced disposaible number. What you (and Blizzard) fail to realize is that it’s that shared need that creates communities. And communities make mmos.
  4. I don’t know if you’re talking about progressive Whitemane or Era version. Era is popping. If Whitemane Cata is dead it’s because Blizz killed it by ushering players to Megaservers.

WoW loses its “community feeling” because of Blizz’s design decisions…like Megaservers. I played on several that had great communities. Lava Lash in SoD and Maladath in Wrath are examples. And then Blizz locked and killed them.

Also, your first comment about 3000 players is insane. It just goes to show how warped peoples’ perception of a healthy server has become. 3000 is way more than enough to do everything and anything.

Dreamscythe has more players than Nightslayer(players not raiding pop) and the amount of toxicity is extremely lower than NS. Don’t play on the toxic swiper server and you realize that mega servers are perfectly fine, its just classic andys that are bad.

As a member of the 300 players on Bloodsail Buccaneers……give me that free transfer already blizz!

This entire forum is the definition of insanity. Do the same things over & over again expecting different results. They’ve already attempted fresh servers and they failed so let’s just move on

I don’t think new servers will happen and mega servers are the trend - but I do think there is a problem.

We had a discussion in our anniversary guild about whether people are playing MoP. A lot of the guild would like to - but only a small number will. That small number have levelled toons and professions on cata classic. There’s another set of players who want to play MoP but dont want to have to level toons from 0 and be way behind in professions and gold.

Is there a solution - probably not for the MoP classic launching this summer/autumn. But for the future rather than a progressive server over years a number of people would prefer the occasional expansion specific server. And the popular ones at the moment would be TBC, WoTLK, MoP and Legion. A lot of people want to play legion again - but not if it involves playing thru every expansion before that - especially including WoD. An expansion specific server would give you starter characters at the level for starting the expansion with starter gear with levelled professions and a very small amount of gold.

The only thing they are hopefully doing is merge servers.

There are only really two solutions at current. The first is to join a retail remix which really isn’t near what the expansion are and the other is to have a set group of people who are going to suppose each other like the old days so that gold does not matter because everything is being provided by the group itself.

Other than that no there is no solution. Fresh Realms always die because those interested in fresh generally only care about that fresh part and not the entire expansion itself. Then even it was unlocked at that point it would kill the point of the Fresh realm by having people transfer to it. Resulting in the remaining fresh players leaving and the realm further bleeding out.

Realistically the first group of players mentioned are doing the right thing and preparing for MoP during Cataclysm. There is just no world in which you are going to be able to just hop in at X expansion and be on par with everyone else resource-wise and have that realm survive.

I imagine the closes you could get is Blizzard decided to do a SoX version on somethings besides vanilla.
