I agree. I think there are aspects of the feeling of new community as well for people as opposed to established ones. Not impossible to be part of on a established server just harder. To me though the reason i want to see fresh is ecnomic more so than behind. I was behind when i played TBC the first time was the entire history of the game but still enjoy the content.
If it doesnt happen ill still be playing and move to the server i have my Names held and just start there.
I don’t think you understand the reason/purpose behind fresh servers if you think rolling on a low population server qualifies. Lets go over the list shall we, or at least a few ideas behind it.
Economy reset: People are tired of the trash heap the classic economy has become due to endless botting for over a year, gold inflation has hit new records even in comparison to other servers. The devaluation of gold itself means that normal farming methods in TBC won’t be as relevant because of the insane stockpiles that people have from gbids, which were most likely acquired from gold buying in the first place. Areas that you used to farm for x amount of gold per hour in order to buy materials have now been almost entirely replaced with gbids in order to keep pace with consumes.
Level playing field: Players that haven’t been around a while as well as players that have been around the entire time can come together to enjoy a new leveling process that can only be experienced at the start of a server. This server start negates all boosting, because boosters do not exist. So essentially you can’t pay to skip content for the first few weeks. It’s an interesting experience.
Prevention of prepping for content: An easy example of this is players boosting several characters via boosting services to be able to craft dozens of jewelcrafting, spellcloth, etc cooldowns. This type of prep work didn’t really happen during the first iteration of TBC. Now players have an overwhelming amount of knowledge of the expansion combined with more than a year of prep time. A simple counter to this is fresh as that eliminates the majority of prep time. Personally I don’t mind the month prior or prepatch being a launch date for fresh, because the amount of prepping is still very limited.
Low population servers aren’t as effected by inflation as the popular servers. If a massive amount of fresh lvl1 toons started leveling there, it could only help.
You want to be part of the first wave again. I get that. I was part of that wave in classic and it was a blast. They already stated they are heavily considering Fresh Classic servers. I feel it is reasonable to assume these servers will be progressive. You can also simulate this experience with a massive organized settlement on a low population server.
This just doesn’t seem like a good reason if i am being honest. People DID prep for TBC back in the day. People hoarded gems, leveled alts, massed gold etc. Maybe not to the extent as it will happen today, but it did happen. Just like at the end of TBC everyone started leveling Paladins thinking they were the key to unlock DeathKnights. Again, if this is your MAIN concern, then why not wait for the new progressive servers that are all but confirmed?
If Blizzard saw a massive amount of people taking matters into their own hands to solve this problem, maybe they will think seriously about TBC fresh servers.
Anyone can be rich on a progressed server where you can merely swipe a credit card. Gold has no meaning once enough time has passed and botting gone unchecked. Gbids becoming a norm and players throwing down nearly 200k on one item are a good indication that players are no longer acquiring gear from their own earnest work.
It’s from an interview with Brian Birmingham on a German language site…here’s a translation of the second bullet point
“Brian Birmingham later hinted that there could be new servers for TBC Classic. However, this only happens if the queues on all existing servers run out of control. If, on the other hand, there is a glaring overpopulation on only some servers, Blizzard will first offer server transfer capabilities to allow affected players to switch to the other existing servers.”
