New 70, first time hitting max… My friend says I do not need to finish the main story due to some recent patch making everything available? But I cannot find any information…

Don’t you need to finish the campaign to unlock stuff like world quests and other content?
Account-wide. You need to do it on ONE character, then it’s unlocked for everyone.

I am doing the Forbidden Reach quests now, but I didn’t finish the MSQ… I am just wondering if I NEED to do the rest of it?
Gota finish the Main Campaign to unluck the WQ and other stuff so you can get rep

Might be tough to understand the game if you ignored the story.
The fastest I can think is completing Waking Shore then head to Azure Span.
Yup, the first time around you do. You cant unlock new zone wqs and stuff otherwise.
There’s dialogue skips, you do need to just talk to some NPCs. No biggie.
Edit: Actually not sure if that’s because I completed on another toon already. Maybe someone else can confirm.
Hit max level on my lock past weekend, ran to the high tower in dragonville, took the questline to Forbidden Reach, ported there, talked to questie, selected the skip storyline option and the quest to go Moletown popped up.
Think I was on my way in there about 15 minutes after the ding.
It depends on your priorities.
Do you want certain campaign mogs? Do you want to progress the phasing in certain zones to current timeline? Do you want to unlock certain flight points? Do you want to get easy renown/rep? Do you want Isle resources to spend on stuff? Etc.
If you answered yes to any of the above, then you should do the main campaign in its entirety in all zones. It really doesn’t take that long. I’ve already done the entire campaign in all the zones 3 times. It’s slightly annoying but absolutely necessary if you’re doing it per armor class.
Its a skip if you did it already, but for a fresh 70 that never did it you have to do it all

You can’t skip the story. I don’t know why all these people are saying you can. You cannot. You are locking yourself out of content if you don’t do it. You could still run mythic dungeons and do some raids without the story, but you have to do the story to even unlock the upgrade system for your gear.
