When I first login to the game, after the loading screen goes away and the game world appears with my character everything freezes, completely, for a few seconds and then it works fine.
Now, this is happening on two separate machines, each on different ISP’s.
I know that many others are experiencing the same issue, and I have yet to see Blizzard address, what I consider to be a big issue.
I get this too.
I’m going to test logging in without any addons enabled to see if that helps.
If an addon is causing this, it might take some time to track it down.
In another thread a player has discovered that it started happening on his alt after he finished the Thaldraszus/Primalist Future campaign and unlocked all that account wide stuff.
I wrote this in another thread. I haven’t been able to replicate this yet today after the daily reset, but I know I have experienced this freezing on my main character on a few different occasions and the below was always true:
I have a weird theory about this, that I would love some additional input from others on.
Something similar is happening to me, really just on my main character.
I have an addon installed called QuestsChanged, and every time after I have a 5-10 seconds freeze upon entering world, I check that addon output and I am seeing a massive list of quests being completed.
From what I can tell, it’s mostly the questlines that are offered at certain renown levels. This makes sense as to why I only experience this issue on my main, as they are the only one to have completed those quests.
I believe the game is “resetting” these quest completions daily, and then somehow the game is re-checking and completing them upon my first login after reset, which is causing the stutter/freeze.
I am still working on some more testing to see if I can provide any more confirmation, but I can really only test once per day. After the initial login, future logins seem “normal”.
This happens to me every day the first time I log in to any character. After that, swapping between characters exhibits no issue as long as I don’t re-launch the game. So for me it is essentially tied to the first login of a game session. It happens at any time of day and multiple times per day if I’ve closed the game and come back to it later.
This theory sounds like it might have some weight to it.
I notice that sometimes upon logging into a character in a fresh session, the level-up animation will play on the character. You know, that burst of light that appears around your character, with the “whoosh” sound. This happens after the delay occurs.
The thing is though, this has been happening for years now though (playing the level-up animation upon login). It doesn’t happen all the time though, whereas this new “freeze for a few seconds upon login” bug happens every single login.
Another strange thing I’ve noticed in the past few days is that when I turn my game sound on after having been logged in for a while, the first sound it will play is the Dragonriding Racing quest completion musical flourish sound. This has happened quite a few times in the past week, and at no point had I recently completed a Dragonriding Race. I may have completed one earlier in my play session, like maybe an hour before turning my sound back on, but not any time near when I turned my sound on.
Both the sound issue and the login on freeze issue make it seem like this game is keeping tons of information batched in the background for some reason. Might be why we’re seeing such poor performance issues this expansion (hence why I am forced to play with my game sound turned off most of the time, as it causes the game to microstutter).
Blizzard did mess with how the cache is handled to get rid of the severe stuttering when moving the camera around. You can recreate this stutter with AdvancedInterfaceOptions addon and set GxAllowCachelessShaderMode to “1”.
If it’s not already fixed, I doubt it ever will. They got their money and the game works somewhat, they call it a day.
Said it in the other thread, gonna say it here too. Experiencing the same thing. Game freezes for 5-10 seconds upon loading in the first time of the day. Tried it with no addons, deleted cache and wtf, etc. Could use some help on this one Blizzard.
i have the same issue. i logged into another character in Valdrakken and it did the same thing. So i tried another character who is in the Waking Shores starting area and it didnt do it. I did see the level up animation but no freezing. I dont have any addons installed.
I started getting this freezing issue recently too… Mainly occurs when logging on to a character for the first time. However, it has progressively gotten more random and will occur through-out my gameplay session.
I have tried everything I can think of: deleted addon folder, cache, and wtf folders and switched back and forth between directX versions or lowering graphics to 1 and disabling all “extra” graphic options like AA. Checked and updated drivers and ran diagnostics etc… Scan/Repair game. I have not uninstalled yet but I doubt that will do anything.
I usually actively monitor with MSI Afterburner and I’ve been looking at Task Manager when this occurs and nothing is unusual. CPU is at around 60%, Ram is around 18% (32gb), and networking doesn’t spike… The freezing happens when I have Afterburner closed out as well just incase its a weird overlay issue.
Not going to lie, this is an extremely obnoxious bug. Been playing since 2005 and this feels like the worse one yet.
The thought occured to me yesterday: what if this is intentional?
What if this pause is some type of anti-cheat mechanism that Blizzard implemented in order to deal with the “disconnecting while dragonriding” bug?
As far as I’m aware, other games that use anti-cheat mechanisms have similar long initial loading times (like Lost Ark). Also as far as I’m aware, the reason why we get DC’d when colliding with geometry at a very fast rate of speed is due to another anti-cheat mechanism, which was a measure put in place to prevent the Cata/WoD-era flyhack type exploits.
Has anyone here been disconnected while dragonriding in the past week or so, since this freezing issue has taken place? I haven’t.
–EDIT– Welp, I got hit with one of the dcs yesterday, so that invalidates my theory, lol
