Free transfer import bots are killing the Whitemane Economy

These bots brining materials from dead realms is murdering the economy.

Some will say “OMG its too expensive” well not really because if you realize you too can make a ton of gold off the AH then you can also make the gold you need to both USE and make money on the AH.

But the result of these import bots is way worse than you think; sure they bring prices down by flooding the market, but the problem is now new players cant easily catch up by means of the economy to get the stuff they want like their new mounts, maybe a new run in a Molten Core GDKP…

Because they cant make money legit, they will do one of two things… Buy gold, or give up.

I came in on my alt war I got there with full pre bis and wanted to join a ZG GDKP to see what was going on with things on the realm.

Got kicked after the wealth check. 5k wasn’t enough. It was a 2% host cut run so nothing too crazy. Idols going for 3k and warblades for 7500 was nutty sounding. So for a ZG you’d need 10k min.

Can’t imagine a MC if you aren’t a carry. It’d probably be a 20-25k buy in.

The correct response is “I have gold”, but yes ridiculous for ZG. Idols I see go for 1500 to 2500 ish…

As soon as I needed one they started going 4k each lol.

When I don’t they will be min bid.

C’est la vie

Note that I’m not saying, “You’re wrong.” This is a question:

How do you know (i.e. how could one verify) that there is any effect whatsoever to AH prices specifically from bots bringing materials from dead realms?

:woman_shrugging:

AH is being flooded with more materials than exist on our server. =( so you cant make any profit anymore.

I think the goal here is to drive gold sales actually.

Show us?

Or provide us with tools to reproduce whatever provides this knowledge.

How does one determine the amount of materials that exist on a server? And how do you measure that against AH data? Are you using a program that interfaces through an API or?

I’m not defending any behavior nor saying that your numbers or claims aren’t accurate, I’m asking how I could verify them, so that I would know and understand to the extent that I could, in good conscience support your claims.

:woman_shrugging:

This is exactly right.

When I checked in on whitemane here and there I noticed high prices and low amounts of mats like arcane crystals, hides, ores and herbs. Recently since the HC hype and Classic+ talk most of those mats dropped in price by 20%. Increased in quantity.

A new player comes into that type of influx of materials they’d only get gold from BoE’s. That is no way to generate gold for your mount or respec costs. At all.

This is also why ‘‘just GDKP’’ is such a harmful response.

Players who don’t want to participate in GDKP are not on the same playing field because their avenues of keeping up with the economy have sliced ankles from FCM.

But GDKP is soooo good and easy to get into they say… If you’re already geared lol

The economy was ruined the day GDKP became meta play.

This is our games ecosystem.
People who farm still make money.

Whitemane is the premier pvp server with the most activity and probably the biggest economy.

Are you pushing for capitalism or socialism?

Dear Cezar, please respond to:

How does one know that the AH is being cooked by bots? I would venture to think that it is cooked by whales more often.

If you trust Aggrend, one of the lead producers for classic wow, this is a direct quote from him in response to me asking him to shut off Free Character Moves (“FCMs”) from Grobbulus to Whitemane:

I’ve had a few people bring this up but i honestly do not see the harm in allowing this freedom of movement. Sure it might get abused sometimes, but honestly in a world where the economy is old and inflated, having materials come in regularly helps keep prices nominal. Not to say we won’t change it, but I’m struggling to see the actual problem with it.

This issue dramatically impacts us on Grobbulus. We are a single guild per faction and we do not have an auction house due to ultra low pop. We instead supply materials internally in a self sufficient way. It’s fine, we’ve been doing it for 3 years now, but as the bots ramp up to FCM materials off the sever, we have to compete with them for rare mats. Making it even worse, we don’t have an option to buy them from the AH… they leave our economy. We need consumes to help clear our raids when we do 30 person Naxx… not looking for parses or anything.

Just trying to play the game and competing with bots and humans (it isn’t just bots we see real players mule to Whitemane to make money) makes it feel really bad when we don’t even have the option to buy the resources from the AH that were now competing for

Trust is an interesting word choice. I don’t “trust” my own eyes or intuition or even reason when it comes to trying to make sense of complex issues without any verifiable ways to do so.

Chin up Jarl. You have been leading a great cause for years. I’m sure you’ll find a way to make things work. I’m also pretty confident that this sort of difficulty to overcome is something that, in the long run, makes the experience of your playstyle that much more enjoyable.

I’ve debated this issue quite a lot with Aggrend over the last year. We don’t see eye to eye, but it’s true, we get by fine even while competing against bots/farmers/mules and despite not having an AH. It’s probably the biggest thorn in our communities side though and is constantly a bad feeling for our players.

Playing on Remulos/Yojamba both servers had the same issue as grobb. It was even easier to farm lotus and other rare mats on Mankrik than on those ‘dead’ servers. Many of us didn’t even have flasks come raid time.

Interestingly though on the Yojamba/argual/felstriker cluster, there was a multi boxer who was incredibly helpful. Very willing to give free enchants/dungeon matts to people. I wonder if they still play? Its been years.
