Free Server Xfer's From the standpoint of a Alliance GM on Skeram

Hey everyone. I’m the Guild Master of on the Alliance Side of PVP Skeram. I wanted to share my thoughts on the free server xfering.

I do believe it is time to turn it off.

When the server first launched, due to some third-party sites there was assumptions of an imbalance of factions. About 60:40 Horde:Alliance. Que times were sitting around 20k during the first week.

Like most of us figured there would be a free server xfer coming if the que times didn’t decline.

By week two. Que times were around 12k. Most of this was due to people wanting to play and going to a new server that was added to the list after launch. People willing to start over.

At this point, I still assumed there would be free server xfer coming. What I didn’t expect was how imbalanced the server was due to layering. I still assumed 60:40 or close to.

Then we turned off some of the layers, and it really shined. It looked and felt like 70:30.

At some point between weeks 2 and 3 free server xferes opened.

They are still open 2 weeks later. We have 0 que times, even during peek hours.

In the 2-3 weeks that is has been open on the alliance side of Skeram. We have lost 8 of the competitive guilds, or guild that had started to earn a reputation, from the alliance side.

Now as a Guild Master, I’m having to log on every day and do a count of who left guild overnight. Now I can’t blame Blizzard for this one. I guess I need to recruit better players who are not afraid of a little imbalance. If it were little. Looking at Third-party sites (Cause thats all we have). The imbalance is so bad its now 80:20 Horde:Alliance.

While the server that we can free xfer to is also imbalanced with an estimated 70:30 Alliance:Horde.

Some of us do not want to leave because of the benifiets of being on the lower majority side of an imbalanced faction. Also if players on Skeram Alliance keep leaving there will never be any BG ques. And we’re on a patch pre-battlegroups.

TL:DR - Please turn off Free Server Xfers before you completely kill 2 servers. Or if there is a reason to really keep them up, from the business aspect of game management. Can we at least limit it to horde side of Skeram? That way you are balancing out 2 servers more instead of just killing 2.

Players on Skeram got what they want thanks to server transfers, imbalanced server.

I can only point out that BGs aren’t server specific. So as long as there’s a good chunk of ally queuing, it should be okay.

The rest, yeah, I feel you. Sorry :frowning:

That is not at all true, unless blizzard has said specifically they’re using cross server battlegrounds. Which wasnt apart of vanilla. Battle groups were implemented in TBC.

They did confirm CRBG’s in an interview a few months before launch. That’s what we’re getting.

??

Uh…what?

Battlegroups were implemented in 1.12, before the TBC Patch.

In Tipsout dev interview, they confirmed BGs will be done cross realm. So, this is Vanilla like (just not the start of vanilla-like).

People were frothing at the mouth about demanding free transfers. They asked and they received and now people understand that players getting what they want is almost always a bad thing. Players don’t know what they want in terms of long term benefit and health of the game. Giving in to players demanding things is exactly how retail came to be what it is. So in Classic we have yet another example of the player base screaming and crying for something (transfers) and getting it only for those with a bit of the ol’ IQ to realize it was probably a bad thing that made server imbalance even worse.

There’s nothing that ever fixes a single issue and doesn’t create more problems in other ares. The desire to fix the queues helped screw faction imbalance even more. Players should never get what they ask for. Period.

Players on PvP servers for the most part are umbalanced proving that is what the players want, transfers (free or paid) will always exasperate that. This is just fact. Nobody wants a balanced server.

I have to disagree players want unbalanced pvp. Opening up transfers for a 2nd time was fine but i think this guy is just stating its gone on too long. Based on the blue post I personally thought it would only last a weekend and that was over a week ago…

Don’t really have have much to add, great post and as another alliance skeram player I agree with you 100%

This sounds like a terrible move on Blizzard’s part. They should have only allowed transfers from the higher faction to make an attempt at keeping balanced servers.

They can still make this right but they need to set faction limits and only allow transfers from certain factions unless a server is close to being balanced.

Why didnt you include that Skeram is also a Horde youtube streamer server.
Kargoz and his youtube streaming friends, and their communities all went there. They were the primary reason Horde over populated that server.

It’s crazy how many people don’t realize we’re getting Cross-realm Battlegrounds.

To be fair, unless you were paying attention to the forums in the months leading up to launch, it would be something that’s more difficult to find since it wasn’t a blue post or dev update video that it was confirmed in.
