To the extent of my knowledge, Blizzard gave out free 100 character boosts to players who haven’t had an active subscription since Warlords of Draenor as a promotion for the 15th Anniversary of WoW. If this was given to every player, whether their subscription was current or not, i wouldn’t be frustrated, however it was reserved for those who have quit the game. Characters take a lot of commitment to level, heirlooms or not, and character boosts are expensive. To give out something this substantial to those who are not currently supporting WoW is ridiculous. It feels like a real slap to the face if you ask me. I think everyone should get this reward as part of this Anniversary, no matter the subscription status, what do you all think?
I completely agree with you. It takes a lot of time to level a toon to 100 so its frustrating for this to be given away to a select group of people. Especially since it is given to those who haven been paying to play the game. I agree if it is being given away as part of the 15th anniversary and goes out to everyone great, if not it shouldn’t have been given out. I understand they are wanting to bring back players but they should not be ignoring those who are here and supporting the game.
In all honesty, has Blizzard made any good decisions lately? This wouldn’t surprise me if it were true.
Also, with the new essence system, I doubt I want to play more than the Two toons I currently play. Blizzard loves killing the ability to play multiple toons. I don’t feel like grinding out essences again and again. the neck grind is a big turn off as well.
It’s an incentive to draw people back to playing. You already pay them for the subscription. They don’t need to give us anything since they already have our money.
Well… They gave level 100 boosts to expired accounts to attempt and make at least 3 months of subscriptions off of them for the anniversary and/or classic. I am sure they are hoping for 6 months or more.
If they really wanted to kick current players in the groin, these returning players would have had all Allied Races unlocked with Heritage Armor access along with a 100+ boost.
I was hoping that a second account tied to my bnet would get one but it did not. I suppose it’s not worth it anyway to activate and transfer for the lvl 100 lol.
yea how about a boost for the loyal players still subbed even though BFA is not that great?
Well, existing players can always buy the $25 statue mounts to celebrate. O.o
To be fair, the statue mounts would be tagged to an $100 collection edition limited quantity purchased to players. Throwing them on the store as standalones was a good idea.
I actually agree with their decision. It’s only 1 character, and returning players can catch up in more advancement so they can play current content with friends and/or family.
From a community point of view it’s what I would deem a wise move. Because those that are supporting WoW and perhaps brought that given person back on board with Warcraft could game with them in closer content and then just pick up from the get-go of current.
I have a few friends that want to come back to WoW but don’t want to go through the extensive catch-up because of having to take care of either family with disabilities, busy work lives, or missed out on an expansion or two due to X event that happened in their lives or otherwise in correlation to time-management.
Having this provides a bridge to connect players and benefit the community & playerbase.
Blizzard has a tendency to reward players without active subs and ignore active players. It’s something they’ve done since Mists.
Whereas other MMOs like FF14 have loyalty programs to reward active players. Even old games like City of Heroes had them.
I’m not sure why WoW is so behind on the times for that.
My issue is that if we want to get a character boosted it costs $60 to do so. ONE CHARACTER is that much. The boost they gave away is worth at least $40 and would extremely help leveling characters to 120. I’m not saying get rid of the promotion, i’m saying to include all people no matter their subscription status.
Yes.
They added capybaras to the game and made the Female Worgen super cute.
The amount of people having a meltdown over this promotion is hilarious.
All it is is an incentive to get people to resub. Get over it. The amount of time being spent complaining on the forums probably could have gotten that alt a level or two.
What’s the incentive to keep playing?
What are you whining about?
A lvl 100 upgrade is pretty pointless to anyone playing BFA anyway.
But its very smart marketing to try and bring back old players, effectively gives them a free skip past Draenor to the start of legion, So they can experience the best content wow has to offer in recent history, and they are still gonna have to drop some cash for a sub and BFA if they do get sucked back in to the game.
This is some bs logic.
What if i want to play an alt and a different class?
Leveling is cancer and I know this because I am grinding an alt from 0 to 120 right now.
Getting a free boost to 100 makes that monumentally easier.
Me too and the WoD thing isn’t true. There’s some hidden criteria that nobody has figured out yet. I resubbed two accounts to try to get the boost that have been dead since MoP to WoD timeframe and neither got the boost. However, they were nice enough to refund my money.
Funny side note: I told them I would rather have the boost over the refund. They didn’t even acknowledge my request and just gave my money back
Although I think many points here are sound, there is some entitlement going on here.
We pay for access to the game, nothing more. A promotion for returning players is the same as a store doing a sale on items you bought a month ago. Womp-womp. Level 100 really isn’t that big of a deal to players who have been subbed for even one year, yet alone the years since Draenor.
But for a returning player it can be a big deal. It puts them back into content they were most familiar with before quitting. When MMOs layer on all this additional content, catchups like this, even minor ones are really important.
Your subscription to this game isn’t some kind of insurance premium that entitles you to anything other than the game-time faucet being switched on. It’s not going into a bank account where Blizzard pays you back in karma or prizes later. You either enjoy the game right now, for the sub cost, or you don’t and unsub.
If you’re going to complain about what players who haven’t played in years are “getting”, then maybe its time you find a new game, or perhaps a new hobby.
And these are too adorable for words.
