FPS not increasing

Recently upgraded my GPU to RTX 4070 from 2070 Super. However, I am not seeing any significant FPS increase when the graphics settings are exactly the same.

Monitor: Razer Raptor 2560 x1440, 144hz
CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x (upgrading soon)

I am aware there’s a certain bottleneck because of the CPU but why there no FPS boost?

Because the CPU has to do its work before the GPU can. Your PC can only render frames as fast as its slowest link.

Also, check to see if you have Vsync on or not. You might be capping to your monitor’s refresh rate if it’s on.

WoW is a CPU based game. More specifically a single core clock speed based game as I believe it still only uses up to 6 cores.

WoW is usually CPU capped. You should be able to verify this by using a hardware monitor or even task manager. You will see the load on a single core go to max under load (i.e. during a dungeon/raid) this is where your bottleneck is. If the core doesn’t max out and GPU load is 100% then your bottleneck would be your GPU. On the bright side having a better GPU means you can now play around w/ raytracing if you want and other “pretty” features. I’d suggest not trying to game w/ RT on but you can still check it out.

what power setting you have (control panel >all control panel items >power options) this will effect the frame rates.is it on balanced (recommended) or high performance ? .high perfomance makes the CPU run at max clock speed . if the cpu base is 1.20ghz and max is 3.40ghz
