Since patch 9.0.5 hit my game has been acting strangely. The game used to run at a solid 117 fps (frame caped) on almost every area but now it drops or spikes to 75-95 in some areas.
These drops or spikes happen more frequently and with more intensity in areas that have already been reported such as Oribos, SoA and Ardenweald.
Last night I spent some hours tweaking and found out that when I turn V-sync on (in game or in NVCP) I get some sudden drops/spikes of about 5-15 fps wherever I am. This happens when I’m walking around, moving the camera while standing still and even if I login and don’t move the character and the camera at all these spikes still happen (I know the game takes some time to load assets and such, but that’s not what’s happening here). I’ve tested this in Oribos, Org. and Sinfall as well.
If I turn V-sync off these random spikes seem to go away on the scenarios described above, but even with g-sync and framerate capped at 117 I get some tearing. The other side effect is that the spikes and drops start happening again once people join the group I’m in, or I open certain UI elements (map, achievements) or when certain in game triggers such LFG or BG joining window pops up
I’ve done all the standard troubleshooting such as disabling all addons, messing with triple buffering in game and several NVCP configs, scan and repair WoW client, disabling full screen optimization, disabling and enabling g-sync and so on, to no avail.
Any help, or confirmation that this is something on Blizzard’s end, would be appreciated.
