I hadd this yesterday, and on checking the in game graphics settings, while in Korthia, the game had weirdly selected a ‘TARGET FPS’ of 50fps - I have never actually selected a target FPS. Once i deslected this, it went back to normal - it re-selected this setting a few hours later, randomly. Deselected it again, it went back to normal.
I found Korthia was randomly altering my ‘TARGET FPS’ setting in Graphics settings. Deselect this, and it jumped back to 144fps
I think this is due to the new grpahics settings in Game SYSTEM>ADVANCED>Target FPS. I dont remember this ever being there before, and it seems to randomly turn on a target fps of 50, which drops the fps like crazy. Deselecting it resolves the issue. It just randomly selected itself on in my game and the fps dropped from 144fps to 50fps in a few seconds. Turning off Target FPS got rid of it.
I’ve only been testing it for a couple minutes, but this may have just fixed the multitude of FPS issues I was having as well, including the map stutter everyone is reporting!
Edit: I take it back, map stutter and quest objective update stutter are still there but in general performance seems better in general since deselecting the Target FPS setting. I’m getting way less stuttering/FPS drops other than those specific instances everyone seems to be having issues with rn.
I usually get at least 120 FPS and yesterday noticed that I was getting exactly 42 FPS with no variation. I tried deleting my Interface, Cache, and WTF folders, tinkering with the “Target FPS”, adjusting settings in GeForce Experience, nothing.
Finally what fixed it was turning off Vsync in game. I have a 144hz G-Sync monitor and I’m not sure I recall Vsync ever making the framerates drop before, but I don’t see any reason to have it on particularly with that kind of impact…
Hello!
I bring good tidings!
Instead of going through the character transfer route, I decided to test my character in the PTR environment (you know, so i could freely delete things without fear)
I quickly discovered the culprit.
This quest from pandaria - To catch a spy was preventing my FPS from rising. Upon dropping the quest, my FPS came flooding back, it was amazing. I can also confirm this resolved my issue on live servers, mods and all.
